Even if you love carrying your baby around, it’s not always possible for you to do that wherever you go. You need your hands to be free to pick up the groceries, pay the bill at the counter or to maybe hold your other child’s hand.
You do need support, especially when you have to walk out all on your own with your little one in tow. We have road-tested these carriers just for you, pick one that best suit your needs.

Available from Motherswork for children 3.5kg to 15kg.
PLUS
The racer back shoulder straps were very comfortable. The various buckles and straps were also adjustable – lets you move baby closer to you as well as how high baby is seated.
COULD BE BETTER
Instructions were confusing. Would have liked the shoulder straps to be more well-padded.The waistband was a little stiff while the organic cotton fabric was not cooling at all.
VERDICT
Comfortable for baby, but not for mum.
Available from www.13thirteen.com.sg, for children 3.5kg to 20kg.
PLUS
It provides excellent support. This is the only carrier that comes with a sleeping hood (which doubles as neck support) that can be rolled up – and kept in a pocket on the carrier so you don’t lose it. It also comes with an infant insert, so that the baby stays snugly in the carrier.
COULD BE BETTER
It felt rather warm when carrying Baby, and although the fabric was breathable, it attracted dust and pet fur easily.
VERDICT
Comfortable for both baby and mother.
Available from www.13thirteen.com.sg for children 3.5kg to 20kg,
PLUS
Made of lightweight, breathable material it is very suitable for the outdoors. There are drawstring which are helpful in keeping baby snug. The shoulder-straps are well-padded and gives smaller-sized mums a better fit and upper-back support. It comes with a large sleeping hood doubles as a breastfeeding cover.
COULD BE BETTER
Absolutely nothing.
VERDICT
The perfect carrier.
Available from www.13thirteen.com.sg for children 6kg to 20kg.
PLUS
There was ample support from the broad waistband. The buckles come upholstered to prevent abrasion. If you are petite, you can opt to wear the thick shoulder pads in an racer back style.
COULD BE BETTER
There was a lack of neck and head support for younger babies.
VERDICT
Good for bigger babies.
Available from Motherswork for children 3.5kg to 20kg.
PLUS
The only carrier that allows you to separate the top and bottom. You can use the bottom as hip seat for older babies. The shoulder padding comes in a breathable material and is easy to wear and adjust.
COULD BE BETTER
Not suitable to smaller babies and the loud sound when undoing the Velcro waistband may shock the baby, especially when they are sleeping.
VERDICT
Lacks a good fit for smaller babies.
Available from www.pupsikstudio.com for children 11kg to 22kg.
PLUS
A structured carrier with an ergonomic fit for both baby and mum. It also comes with thick and comfortable shoulder pads.
COULD BE BETTER
The shoulder straps were badly positioned as they dug into mum’s armpits.
VERDICT
If only the shoulder straps were better designed…
Available from Motherswork, for children 3.5kg to 15kg.
PLUS
Excellent for outdoors as the mesh fabric is cooling and the racerback shoulder straps help distribute baby’s weight evenly.
COULD BE BETTER
Not good for bigger babies. A broader waistband and a better padded shoulder strap would have helped.
VERDICT
The least ergonomic of all the baby carriers.
Available from Motherswork, for children 3.3kg to 20kg.
PLUS
In addition to the front and back positions, this is the only carrier that allows you to carry your baby on your hip. The shoulder straps were well-padded and the back panel works as head support for younger babies and can be extended to fit the baby’s back as he grows.
COULD BE BETTER
The Velcro on the waistband could not be tucked in and tended to rub against Baby’s legs. The hooks for the sleeping hood were a little hard to clip on. The fabric is thick and could be warm outdoors.
VERDICT
A useful carrier if you like the hip-carry position.
