Thanksgiving usually falls on the fourth Thursday in November. It is a federal holiday in United States of America – akin to what is known as a Public Holiday in our local Singapore term. Thanksgiving is considered a major holiday and technically, the longest paid vacation most people get as many companies tend to give the Friday after Thanksgiving off. If not, most employees will take a day of vacation leave on that Friday in order to reunite with their families during this holiday for a Thanksgiving dinner feast. When combined with the weekend, that is a total of four days off. Schools are generally closed during this period as well.

Prior to the actual Thanksgiving holiday, most online e-commerce retailers will hold sale events and offer a myriad of discounts to lure shoppers, working them into an online shopping frenzy when these shoppers start purchasing in advance so that they can have their items delivered to their doorstep in time before Thanksgiving. In fact, most Americans patiently await the arrival of Black Friday in order to scour the web for the greatest deals and discounts online on popular e-tailers such as Amazon, which usually will give away deals and coupons in the week leading up to the main event of Black Friday itself.

However, it’s important to note that even if you didn’t manage to purchase every single item on your wish-list during Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales in time to give them away as Christmas gifts to your family and friends, you can still hold out and wait till the end of December — right after the holidays — as that’s when prices dip even further than the mega sales held in November!
