The Regent Singapore’s Tea Lounge is serving an afternoon tea fit for royalty. It’s a princess themed buffet spread, served against the backdrop of a glittering castle decor. Decadent nibbles include beetroot marinated queen scallop tartar with chilled saffron angel hair and caviar; and kurobuta organic honey glazed gammon ham with marsala wine sauce. Sweet treats include a pumpkin mousse mille feuille and princess breakfast macarons.
There will also be a a caviar station with all the condiments, a carvery and a selection of local favourites such as lobster laksa with rice noodles and XO sauce. Begin by sipping on cups of a custom blend tea for Disney by Tealeaves — the Princess Breakfast tea is a rooibos blend with flavours of Madagascan vanilla bean and ripe strawberries. With tea out of the way, continue to enjoy the feast with unlimited pours of Prosecco ($123) or NV Duval-Leroy Fleur de Champagne ($143). Available for two sittings on Jan 1 at 12pm and 3pm, it’s $83 per adult and $41.50 per child without alcohol.

On New Year’s Day, we can’t think of a better place to be sipping unlimited pours of champagne than Brasserie Le Saveurs’ luxurious confines. ‘R’ de Ruinart Brut NV Champagne will flow throughout, but the drinking can begin an hour earlier as brunch-goers enjoy a complimentary hour of apéritifs served at Astor Bar (11am to 12pm).
Begin with pass-around hors d’oeuvres like the salmon gravlax mousse with roe in charcoal cones and move onto a display of cold seafood like the freshly shucked Fine De Claire oysters and Boston lobsters. There will be sushi, sashimi, charcuterie, artisanal cheeses, a carvery and live stations of pan-seared duck foie gras with pear william compote, pistachio, balsamic and brioche.

Over at La Brezza, brunch is a relaxed affair to nurse those NYE hangovers at. Their free-flow Chilli Padi Mary cocktail delivers the desired punch, and will put you in the mood for the delicious food on offer. A three-tiered silver stand brimming with poached boston lobster, freshly shucked oysters and poached prawns are served at your table, while nibbles like arancini, mozzarella fritta, croquette and fritella (Italian fried dough) are passed around.

Contemporary Cantonese restaurant Mitzo presents an ‘enhanced’ New Year’s Day brunch, where classic Cantonese dishes are reinvented in a menu that ensures the year will begin on a delicious note. The menu features premium fare like a Lobster claw stuffed with shrimp paste and sesame mayonnaise, or if you want a different take to it, a Lobster claw stuffed with shrimp paste, pink ginger & spring onion.

Pan Pacific’s Edge has for long been one of the city’s favourite all-you-can-eat spots, and it should be no different on New Year’s Day. The brunch is paired with all-you-can-drink servings of Veuve Clicquot Champagne, select red and white wines, cocktails and beers to ensure your spirits are ‘high’ as you navigate the selections that include the roasted treasures duck with chorizo and chestnuts and grilled sweet paprika red snapper fillet alongside the stunning display of seafood on ice.

New Year’s Day should be spent with family, and at Mandarin Oriental Singapore’s Melt Cafe, the little ones are well taken care of to ensure a good time is had by all. A roving magician will have them squealing at their tricks, and a special kids corner called Little Fan Land will be equipped with colouring books, video games and kid-friendly movies.
There’s enough to eat for them with Melt’s dizzying array of food, and the desserts are to-die-for. This may not be a buffet packed with over the top eats and unlimited drinks, but Syun at Resorts World Sentosa impresses with quality ingredients to ensure a very decadent New Year’s lunch. Head Chef Hal Yamashita presents a seven-course set menu which is an homage to traditional Japanese dishes enjoyed during the New Year celebrations.
Expect decadent offerings like the charcoal grilled Kagoshima beef with shallot dressing and fresh wasabi, and his popular signature, the sea urchin rolled with wagyu beef. Often lauded as one of the city’s best Champagne brunches, The Ritz-Carlton’s Colony is the place to be for brunch on Jan 1. The Shangri-La Hotel’s Japanese restaurant, Nami, is an elegant space for a New Year lunch, and the jaw-dropping views from the 24th floor will put anyone in a celebratory mood. If you are not in the mood for excesses and prize quality above all, their ceremonial set lunch ($150++) menu is just what you need. At lunch, dishes from a typical ‘Osechi Ryori’ (Japanese, New Year cuisine) are what you can expect.
The seven-course lunch menu includes delicacies like the Japanese Ozoni soup – an umami-laden clear dashi broth served with mochi rice cakes (which is traditionally savoured on the first day of the year). There is also grilled A5 Miyazaki beef, steamed snapper with turnips, Hokkaido scallops and ginger rice. To pair, select from their menu of premium Japanese sake.
