It’s hard to keep a secret when you’re in show business, particularly a pregnancy. From staying off red carpet events to wearing baggy, loose-fitting clothes, there are so many ways celebrities try to conceal their pregnancies, but end up giving away clues that put the pregnancy rumour mill into overdrive.
But as the following celebrities show, it is possible to maintain some secrecy in Hollywood (and beyond). Here are 10 celebrities who somehow managed to keep their pregnancies (or surrogacies) under wraps:

Hong Kong actress-model Jennifer Tse, the younger sister of actor Nicholas Tse, stunned followers when she suddenly revealed via social media that she has given birth to a baby girl. The 36-year-old posted the image below along with the caption: “You are my brightest light”.
What’s even more shocking is the fact that she posted the sweet photo to mark her daughter’s 100 days of birth, which means Jennifer gave birth some time in late February 2019. Her last major public appearance was in May 2018, so her silence over the rest of the year should’ve been a clue.
There’s also no confirmation yet on who the baby’s father is, although reports have shut down rumours that it’s her friend and Hollywood actor Jeremy Renner (who plays Hawkeye in Marvel’s The Avengers).
The 42-year-old Hollywood actress, known for her roles in Zero Dark Thirty and Dark Phoenix, secretly welcomed her first child with her fashion executive husband in 2018.
The baby girl, Giulietta Chastain Passi, was born via surrogate on April 4, but media outlets only picked up on the news when she was spotted pushing a stroller around the set Eve in New York City in November 2018.
Earlier this year, Jessica posted the first image of her daughter (albeit just her little hand reaching out for one of her ruby rings), along with the caption: “You’ve got good taste, kid.”
In January 2011, the gorgeous Australian actress and her husband, musician Keith Urban, announced the arrival of their second daughter born via a surrogate on December 28. The couple chose to keep the entire surrogacy process a secret in order to protect everyone involved.
Faith Margaret Kidman Urban joins big sister Sunday Rose, to complete the family of four. The 51-year-old Big Little Lies actress is also mum to two adopted children, Isabella and Conor, from her previous marriage to actor Tom Cruise.
In August 2015, the Charlie’s Angels actress proclaimed on Twitter that she’s officially a mother to a precious baby boy born via gestational carrier.
“Introducing the new little man in my life, my son Rockwell Lloyd Liu. In ❤️!” wrote the then-46-year-old, who is raising her son single-handedly.
She told USA Today that “someone threw out the battery” of her biological clock. “I never feel like it’s too early or too late for anything,” she says. “I don’t ever think for me that this traditional way is the way to go for me because I haven’t had a traditional life.”
No one knew that the Hollywood actress was pregnant with her and husband Ryan Gosling’s first child, Esmeralda, until tabloids broke the news about seven months into the pregnancy. However, the birth itself was surreptitiously kept under wraps; all we know is that she was born in September 2014.
The notoriously private pair were determined to keep their second pregnancy private as well. Eva managed to keep the pregnancy secret for eight months by rarely appearing in public and artfully concealing her baby bump with scarves and shawls.
News of the birth broke only two whole weeks after their second daughter, Amada, was born.
The Guardians Of The Galaxy actress was already a mother to three-year-old twin boys when she suddenly announced in February 2017 that she and husband Marco Perego have welcomed a third son to the family.
Posting on Instagram, she said, “We couldn’t feel more blessed with the new addition to our family. #threeboys… oh boy!”
Zoe deliberately chose to keep her third pregnancy and birth on the down-low. “When you are nesting, I think it’s important to maintain some kind of anonymity. Just for the sake of energy preservation,” she told E! News.
The American supermodel, 45, who has opened up about her fertility struggles in the past has always dreamed of becoming a mum. So it was the happiest surprise to fans when she announced in January 2016 that she had welcomed her first child via surrogate.
Tyra kept the entire surrogacy process as private as possible, withholding the news even from her closest friends until the revelation on Instagram.
She posted a photo of a baby beanie, with the caption: “The best present we worked and prayed so hard for is finally here. He’s got my fingers and big eyes and his daddy Erik’s mouth and chin. As we thank the angel of a woman that carried our miracle baby boy for us, we pray for everyone who struggles to reach this joyous milestone. York Banks Asla, welcome to the world.”
When news broke in November 2018 that the 39-year-old HK actress had given birth to her third child, Cecilia confirmed via her studio’s Weibo account that she had indeed welcomed a new baby boy.
An illustration was posted on her account, depicting Cecilia with her three sons and a caption that reads:
“Dear fans, friends in the media, collaborators, the studio is very happy to represent Cecilia Cheung in announcing a piece of happy news: Cecilia Cheung gave birth to her third child in November, and both mother and son are healthy.
“Her children and family have always been the most important people that Cecilia has taken care of. In the future, Cecilia will give her all to build and enhance the quality of life for her three children as they grow older, and also work towards creating even better projects.”
The Now You See Me actress, 43, also prefers to fly under the radar when it comes to her kids. In fact, the mum-of-three even managed to fool her Burke And Hare costar Simon Pegg back in 2010, when she was pregnant with her and husband Sacha Baron Cohen’s first child.
“[He] has no observational skills at all because I had the worst morning sickness. I was totally ill and I think he just thought I was some bulimic actress from Hollywood and he just ignored it,” she told People.
The Angie Tribeca and Parks & Recreation actress, 43, secretly welcomed her first child with boyfriend Ezra Koenig, 35, lead singer of Vampire Weekend, in August 2018. The couple have never publicly confirmed their relationship, but have been photographed at many events together.
Their son is named Isaiah Jones Koenig, according to People magazine, but don’t expect to see any pictures of him anytime soon as the couple have chosen to keep him out of the spotlight.
