Fresh air is a must for good feng shui in any space and especially in children’s rooms where there is a constant influx of toys, gadgets, clothing and books. Open the windows often and consider putting some air purifying plants in the room too.
There is no way around it, you have to have a clear system so as to avoid chaos and low energy. A simple solution is to make sure everything has a place. Use lots of covered boxes or baskets so you and your child can do a quick, clean sweep at day’s end.
A youngster’s perfect bedroom should have the right balance of yin and yang energy, which means it should not be too dark or too bright. Experts suggest pastel blues, greens or pinks to create a calming atmosphere as those particular colour are also healing and soothing.
Bring specific feng shui cures in a modern and subtle way into your child’s room. For example, if he or she is a bit unruly, having a photo of you and your husband in the room is a subtle feng shui solution to calm their energy. Display their handmade art in the room too!
It’s best to have the bed positioned so that your child can see the door with the headboard against the far wall. You don’t want your kid to be directly in front of the door. Instead, across the room, diagonal from the door, is typically the most ideal position for restful sleep.
Bunk beds are not ideal because the child will sleep too close to the ceiling and their energy will be compressed. If you are short on space and simply must resort to bunk beds, choose wood over metal and hang some mobiles from the ceiling to improve the Qi of the room.
For a child who could benefit from a confidence boost, make sure that they have a full-length mirror in their room and that the mirror is hung at their eye level. If the mirror is too high, the child may feel like they can never measure up.
The bedroom is a place for your kids to relax and rest. Electronic items (such as the television, computer, iPads and more) disrupt the flow of Qi and will affect your child’s quality of sleep. Remove all unnecessary electronics from their room.
Avoid placing any scary objects like masks in the room. These will make a child feel insecure or unsafe in his or her own bedroom. Sharp objects are also said to incite a child’s temper causing them to lash out or throw tantrums on the regular.
If your kid gets distracted easily, keep the design of the bedroom as simple as possible. Avoid wallpaper that has wild, chaotic patterns. It’s wise to avoid placing the study table in such a way that he or she can see movement outside the bedroom too.
