Update regularly, but never spam

Anything more than 10 posts a day will irritate people and make them “unfollow” you. But, too little and you gain followers very slowly. The magic number seems to be around five.

Don’t leave desperate comments
image

Leaving desperate comments to ask people to follow you. This will only turn people off. You can leaving witty and relevant comments on popular accounts instead.

Organise giveaways or contests
image

Do giveaways for your followers and ask them to promote your account to win the prizes.

It shouldn’t be your goal to have a big group of followers
image

Having followers is a bonus. You should genuinely want to share interesting content with people, and that’s it. If you set out to be popular, people can smell a fame whore from a mile away and they will shun you.

Post beautiful, cute or funny pictures that people can appreciate

Use apps to beautify pictures before posting. It also helps to have a good camera for these photos. Nowadays, a lot of cameras come enabled with Wi-Fi, allowing you to upload pictures directly to your phone wirelessly.

Don’t buy followers

No matter how tempting or affordable it is to do so. When you get found out – and you will – you’ll be so embarrassed.
