Lasalle College of the Arts student Cheryl Chou, 20, was crowned Miss Universe Singapore 2016 at the grand finals of the beauty pageant over the weekend.
She triumphed over 14 other finalists for the coveted title. Other beauties included Temasek Polytechnic student Tanisha Khan, 18, the first runner-up, while the second runner-up was Sonya Branson, 25, a full-time model.
Ms Chou will go on to represent Singapore on the world stage at the international Miss Universe pageant in January in the Philippines.

She didn’t take the crown but Lisa came close. In fact, she was on stage at last year’s pageant when host Steve Harvey announced the wrong winner during the finals. Lisa is hoping to pursue an acting and hosting career now that her pageant duties are up.
The nation’s hopes were high two years ago when Rathi Menon became the first Indian beauty to win the Miss Universe Singapore title since 1998. Alas, she didn’t lift the crown but has become somewhat of a local celeb since donning the Miss Universe sash.
Besides competing on the fifth season of reality TV show, Supermodel Me, not much has been heard about 2013 representative Shi Lim. Prior to winning the Miss Universe Singapore title, however, Shi was a business executive.

In addition to being crowned the winner of Miss Universe Singapore, Lynn Tan also nabbed three subsidiary awards during her reign. They are: Miss Body Beautiful, Miss Sensational Smile and Miss Lumiere International in 2012.
This 2011 Miss Universe alum followed in the footsteps of her mum when she signed up to the pageant. Since then, Valerie Lim has become a lifestyle guru of sorts and runs her own website a la Gwyneth Paltrow’s “GOOP”. Check it out here.
Tania’s reign was mired in controversy when she was crowned in 2010 because another contestant was deemed to be much more deserving of the title. Still, it was Tania who walked away as the winner and she’s never looked back.

This former beauty pageant contestant not only won the Miss Universe Singapore title, she’s also made name for herself these days as an entrepreneur. She started a homegrown beauty company called Rachel K cosmetics and has seen the brand grow steadily since its inception.
Shenise is a beauty pageant veteran. In addition to her Miss Universe Singapore title, she three other accolades under her sash – Miss World Singapore 2005, Miss International Singapore 2002, and Miss Asia Pacific 1999. She drew some flak for her Merlion-inspired national costume in 2008 but says she was proud of her outfit choice regardless.
Formerly a Singapore Airlines stewardess and now a model-actress based in Hong Kong, Jessica Tan says she was taunted for being “overweight” and “ugly” when she was young but puberty treated her kindly, and the ugly ducking blossomed into a swan.

It’s been 10 years since Carol Cheong wore the Miss Universe Singapore crown but the 35-year-old still cherishes her pageant memories. Talking about her experience to The New Paper, Carol says the competition toughened her up and moulded her into becoming much more of “a people person”.
