Baby announcements are always happy news, and it’s double the excitement when it’s your favourite celebrity displaying her bump on social media. And while not everyone announced their pregnancies with a dramatic music video (we’re looking at you, Katy Perry!), many celebs chose to break the news through Instagram. Here are some of our favourite baby announcements so far in 2020:
Social media went into meltdown mode when TMZ first broke the news about Gigi Hadid’s incoming bundle of joy. Fans and media outlets alike went crazy, suggesting that Gigi’s birthday celebration posts on Instagram were also a sneaky gender reveal. She finally confirmed the news in an interview with Jimmy Fallon on April 30, saying “Obviously, we wish we could have announced it on our own terms. But we’re very excited and happy and grateful for everyone’s well wishes and support.” The baby – reportedly a girl – is the first for the power couple, who have dated on and off since 2015.
It’s also a girl for Hong Kong actress Tavia Yeung and her husband, fellow actor Him Law. The couple first announced their pregnancy on Instagram in February this year with a picture of their fingers forming heart shapes on their tummies. The 40-year-old actress also used the hashtag #mylittleprincess in her posts. The actress, known for her work in popular TVB dramas such as The Mysteries of Love and The Hippocratic Crush, has since given birth; she shared several sweet baby photos on her Instagram account.
Everything about this duo has been a bit of whirlwind, from their first date in June 2018 to Chris’ proposal in January 2019 and their gorgeous wedding at the San Ysidro Ranch in California in June of the same year. So it really wasn’t that big of a surprise when People magazine confirmed Katherine’s pregnancy ten months later. The baby is the best-selling author’s first child; Chris is already a proud dad to 7-year-old Jack, who he shares with ex-wife Anna Faris. There’s no due date (or gender confirmation) yet, but some sources say the baby will arrive some time in the fall.
Singaporean model-actress Sheila Sim announced on Instagram in April that she is pregnant with a baby girl. The 35-year-old actress, who wed banker Deon Woo in 2018, uploaded a picture of her and her husband in baseball caps with the words “Mom” and “Dad”, and holding a stuffed toy in their hands.
The actress, who was 16 weeks pregnant at the time of the post, added that she shared the happy news with a select few and thanked those who knew, loved and cared for her. In an interview with Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao, Sim said she found out about her pregnancy on her second wedding anniversary during Chinese New Year.
She added that hers has been a smooth pregnancy so far, with no signs of nausea nor major changes in appetite. Though she was worried initially about being pregnant during the coronavirus pandemic, her fears have since abated. As Sim previously had surgery to remove fibroids in her womb, she will have to undergo a Caesarean birth. She is due in October.
Of course, when it comes to announcements, no one does it quite like Katy Perry. The “Dark Horse” singer announced her pregnancy in an artistic music video for her latest single “Never Worn White” in March this year. That’s not all Katy’s shared on her socials about being pregnant. Sources close to the singer have dished that pregnancy has caused some ups and downs between her and her fiance, Lord of the Rings and Carnival Row star Orlando Bloom, thanks to COVID-19 fears.
However, the couple are as happy as can be, judging by a recent gender reveal post, showing Orlando’s face covered in pink icing (it’s a girl!). Some reports are also saying that Katy may name her little one after her grandmother, Anne Pearl Hudson, who passed shortly after Katy announced her pregnancy. It’s the singer’s first and Orlando’s second child. He shares a 9-year-old son, Flynn, with ex-wife Miranda Kerr.
A baby isn’t the only exciting thing in 2020 for Katy; she’s just announced the release of her latest single “Daisies”, which hits streaming platforms worldwide on May 15. Both “Never Worn White” and “Daisies” will be on her upcoming album KP5.
South Korean actress Kim Soo-hyun aka Claudia Kim has had starring roles in Hollywood blockbusters like Avengers: Age of Ultron and Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald, but she’s currently busy prepping for her latest role – being a mum. News of her pregnancy was confirmed by her agency, Culture Depot, in April this year, and she was 15 weeks into her pregnancy at the time of the announcement. Claudia, who is currently married to Korean-American businessman Cha Min-geun, made her Korean debut in the 2006 K-drama, Master of the Game after winning a modelling contest.
It’s baby number three for the Level Up songstress, who announced her latest pregnancy in a stunning Insta post while on vacation in Turks & Caicos earlier this year. She already shares a beautiful mini-me – 3-year-old Sienna Princess Wilson – with Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, whom she married in 2016. Her eldest child, Future Jr. is shared with her ex, rapper Future.
Spoiler alert! Penn Badgley isn’t just becoming a dad in the popular Netflix series You, he and wife Domino Kirke are also pregnant IRL. It’s double the joy because this little one is a rainbow baby for both Penn and Domino – she announced the pregnancy and shared her story in an Insta post in February 2020. It’s Penn’s first baby and Domino’s second – she is already mum to 10-year-old Cassius from a past relationship. And while Penn has remained silent so far, Domino has discussed how pregnancy is different the second time around and shared cute Insta stories of them cuddling with their dog.
Formerly a member of Kpop group 9Muses, Moon Hyuna also took to Insta to announce the imminent arrival of her tot. The 33-year-old’s ultrasound post garnered more than 16,000 views, and hinted at the baby’s gender (it’s a boy!) and due date (possibly June 2020). The hashtags used in the post also hinted that she may have chosen the name Bandi for her bundle of joy. The “Stress Free” and “Cricket Song” singer is married to her longtime boyfriend, who is still unnamed.
Singaporean singer-songwriter Tay Kewei was four months pregnant with baby number two when she and husband, local singer Alfred Sim, revealed the news. It was on the same day they released their new Mandarin single, “MoMo I Love You”.
In a press release, Cross Ratio Entertainment, which manages the couple, said they are “delighted yet excited to embrace a new phase of their lives”. The new duet is inspired by their two-year-old son MoMo, who often appears in the couple’s social media posts, and expresses their love for the boy with lyrics such as: “Want to grow up with you” and “When my hugs are no longer needed / remember that you are my pride”.
Its official music video features clips of the couple playing with MoMo and travelling together, and ends with a shot of the whole family at home. In that shot, MoMo holds a drawing of a family of four, hinting at the upcoming new arrival. He also says: “There is a baby in Mama’s tummy”, to smiles from his parents.
Ronald Weasley is all grown up! The 31-year-old Harry Potter alum and his girlfriend, actress Georgia Groome, is the first of the magical trio to become a dad. Their publicist confirmed the baby news to E! Online, while requesting for privacy. The couple have been together since 2011, and are extremely low-profile. The notoriously private actor was last seen as Julian Pearce in Apple TV’s series, Servant.
Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas have documented their love story on social media, but when it comes to baby news, the duo have remained tight-lipped so far. However, multiple sources that are supposedly close to the couple confirmed news of the pregnancy to celebrity gossip site JustJared in February 2020. The couple have also been spotted entering a baby store in Studio City, California earlier in the month, where they purportedly picked up “boy toys” such as action figures and boy NASA costumes.
The former Glee star announced her pregnancy with the help of a pretty blue floral maternity dress a few days ago. It’s the first child for Lea and her businessman husband, Zandy Reich; the couple tied the knot in 2018 and have yet to confirm the baby’s gender or due date.
Supergirl actress Melissa Benoist is also joining the Hollywood Moms club with her pregnancy announcement on Instagram. She wrote: “A non-canine child is coming to our family very soon!!! ??? @christophrwood has always been an old dad by nature but now he’s going to be a real one!”. She and husband, actor Chris Woods, met on the set of Supergirl during season 2 of the popular show, and have been married since September 2019. It’s the first baby for both.
Motherhood is old hat for yoga instructor Hilaria Baldwin, who has been married to the eldest Baldwin brother, Alec, since 2012. She already shares four little ones with Alec, but baby number five is extra special for the couple because it’s their rainbow baby. Hilaria announced her baby news in April – five months after announcing the loss of her last baby daughter while she was four months pregnant. Hilaria is also a stepmother to model Ireland Baldwin, Alec’s daughter with former actress and supermodel Kim Basinger.
