This Is What Princess Charlotte’s First Year In School Will Look Like

September 5, 2019

It’s an exciting day for Princess Charlotte! The cheeky four-year-old royal officially enters kindergarten today, as she joins big brother Prince George at Thomas’s Battersea in London. The milestone moment was captured as the young princess, accompanied by her parents, Prince William and Duchess Kate, as well as George, arrived at her first day of school.

A Little Nervous

Charlotte looked ready to go (albeit slightly nervous) in her smart navy school uniform, while older brother George, who has been at the school since 2017, looked like a pro in his smart school get-up.

What Will Her First Year Look Like?

Charlotte’s curriculum at the S$33,000-per-year school will involve a number of classes, including learning the language of French, as well as partaking in art, computing, music, drama and ballet. She will also work on her handwriting, including drawing and letters. We wonder what her penmanship will look like!

The four-year-old will also attend a number of outdoor education classes. According to the school’s website, the young royal will “play and explore”, as well as “make choices and learn to have a go and persevere, be creative and solve problems, form good relationships, be safe, secure and happy.”

The prestigious English school is known for the emphasis placed on the character they aim to build for each pupil. The number one rule is to “be kind”.

“We expect pupils at Thomas’s to be kind, to be good friends to those around them, always on the lookout for those in need of a word of encouragement or a listening ear. We expect our pupils not just to tolerate but to celebrate difference, including faith, beliefs and culture,” the school’s core values read.

It seems that Charlotte is really excited about starting “big school”. “She can’t wait to be with George at big school,” a royal insider tells PEOPLE, “She is so excited about it all.”

George has been attending the school for the last two years, and is known as “George Cambridge” among teachers and students. It seems he’s settled in well and he’ll be happy to help younger sister Charlotte do the same.

“They are close in age and they spend so much time together,” the source says, explaining that playdates with other children who aren’t as well known to the family “can be tricky”, so the two siblings “learn to lean on each other”.

At the King’s Cup regatta event in August 2019, mum Kate was spotted encouraging the sweet but mischievous young princess to wave at the crowd of photographers and onlookers. Instead, Charlotte looked out the window and playfully  stuck her tongue out at the crowd, shocking Kate and sending the crowd into laughter.

Duchess Kate shared a few adorable self-taken portraits of Charlotte to mark her fourth birthday in May 2019. The sweet images were snapped in their home’s garden in Norfolk, UK.

On her first day at Willcocks Nursery School in June 2018, proud mama Kate snapped a couple of portraits to mark the milestone.

The tiny tot looks stylish rocking a retro red overcoat by Amaia Kids, a pony print backpack by Cath Kidston, grey stockings, red leather buckle-up shoes, a pink scarf and a red bow in her shiny brunette locks.

Alongside the album, the palace explained in a statement: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to share two photographs of Princess Charlotte at Kensington Palace this morning.”

“The images were taken by The Duchess shortly before Princess Charlotte left for her first day of nursery at the Willcocks Nursery School.”

The Duchess took this adorable photo at the family’s home in Norfolk, in celebration of the royal cherub’s second birthday. And she isn’t the only princess of the royal family to have a photo taken when she turned two…

They’ve got the same cheeks and lips, don’t they? Yes, this is actually the Queen at age 2, back when she was known as Princess Elizabeth. She’s seen waving from a carriage as it drives through London in 1928.

Princess Charlotte beams as she’s carried by her mother at the same children’s party. The little royal had plenty of fun that day, petting animals and playing with balloons.

This is one of four images released by her mother, Duchess Catherine (aka Kate Middleton), to celebrate Charlotte’s first birthday. “It’s very special having a new little girl… I feel very, very lucky that George has got a little sister,” the Duchess shares in a recent ITV documentary.

Those Hypnotic Eyes

Charlotte’s twinkling blue eyes resemble her father’s, while her chubby cheeks remind us of her brother George. “The Duke and Duchess are very happy to be able to share these important family moments, ahead of their daughter’s first birthday. We hope everyone enjoys these lovely photos as much as we do,” reads the statement from the Royal Family. We sure are!

Princess Charlotte shows walking is a breeze and poses happily for her mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, in this shot. We won’t be surprised this cute little 21-pound floral dress from Spanish retailer M&H will be sold out in minutes once it’s available online.

Moment To Cherish

A beautiful moment captured by her mother while the Royals were in their Norfolk Anmer Hall residence in April. To clip up Charlotte’s fringe, the Duchess of Cambridge used Amaiakids bow clips which cost about 2.50 pounds.

Princess Charlotte Is Born

On May 2, 2015, Wills and Kate welcomed Charlotte to their brood. Prince William says fatherhood has changed him. “Now the smallest little things, you well up a little more, you get affected by the sort of things that happen around the world,” he revealed in an interview.

Wills and Kate take a very hands-on approach to caring for their children. When Charlotte was born, it was reported that instead of getting another nanny, the Duchess asked her mother Carole Middleton to help with her baby (especially for the period after the Prince returned to work when his paternity leave ended).

First Family Holiday

For their first holiday as a family of four, Wills and Kate took George and Charlotte to Courchevel in the French Alps. It’s the same resort they visited before they were married, and it was the first time the children got to experience snow.

Charlotte has the privilege of sitting on great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth’s lap for this family portrait commemorating the Queen’s 90th birthday. Kate reveals how excited the Queen was at Charlotte’s arrival. She shares in a TV interview, “The Queen was really thrilled that it was a little girl, and I think as soon as we came back here to Kensington she was one of our first visitors.”

The royals thought hard about what to name their daughter. And as family means a lot to both of them, they finally decided on Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, honouring both Prince William’s grandmother and late mother. Charlotte is also the female version of Charles, and is Kate’s sister Pippa’s middle name.
