There are two camps when it comes to those who don’t masturbate: The ones who find it unnecessary and the ones who are simply too embarrassed to try it out. If you belong to the latter, then we’re here to provide some encouragement. Chances are, you aren’t alone in this struggle of to-touch-or-not.
Tokyo-based sexual wellness giant Tenga holds annual self-pleasure surveys across multiple countries. And in their 2019 survey that had over 10,000 respondents, the results were collected from nine different countries (including Taiwan and America).
The survey also revealed a surprising factor: 37 per cent of the female respondents stated that they found pleasure in masturbation, while only 33 per cent ranked sex as more pleasurable. The remaining 30 per cent felt that both acts had equal effect on their sex life.
If that still doesn’t give you the confidence to get started, and we’re not saying you should force it upon yourself, here are some of its benefits:
It’s natural for us to become more confident when we get to know all parts of our bodies a little better. How many times have you actually acknowledged your clitoris or thought about getting an orgasm? It seems like most women don’t allocate enough time for them to actually think about it, and that subconsciously stunts your confidence.
But that’s not all, being unable to access the sexual aspects of your life (whenever you need to) affects your sexual wellbeing. It can cause stress unknowingly due to pent-up sexual tension.
Although scientists and doctors have mixed views on this, the spasms caused by orgasms are said to act as a relief to your contracting uterus walls. Cramps are caused by constant contractions in your uterus. During an orgasm, the muscles involuntarily contract and release almost immediately, providing you with temporary relief.
Well, duh. Do we even need to explain this part? You cannot get STI if there’s no one to transmit it to you. What you can get, from masturbating, is an orgasm. So that’s a plus point.
I’m sure you’ve heard this one before. Orgasms are here to make you feel…good! The endorphins released during an orgasm are the natural happy pills your body needs. This is definitely gonna help after a stressful day.
