Wouldn’t it be great if you could predict the future when it comes to dating?
Modern dating can be a minefield, and no one wants to waste an entire evening – or worse, invest months – wondering if their date is either The One or a serial cheater.
For us non-psychics who lack a crystal ball to tell the future, there are ways to avoid bad experiences in the dating world. With the right clues, you can likely size your date up in 15 minutes.
The trick? A method that’s been well-documented across Chinese history – the art of face reading.
“The study of physiognomy helps people quickly assess a person’s personality, character and if you apply psychology, can help you determine a person’s intentions as well,” says feng shui master Alvin Sai of MZX Feng Shui Academy.

With 17 years of feng shui mastery under his belt, the feng shui master certainly knows plenty when it comes to reading and accessing one’s intention through their facial traits.
One also has to keep an eye out for their date’s unguarded moments, which can speak volumes about their character and personality traits, he says. “[It’s important to] consider the person’s gestures or movements while speaking to you to determine if you heard sincere or dishonest speech,” he adds.
Here, he offers some tips for reading traits in a person’s face to determine if they could potentially be ‘the one’.

In Chinese face reading, we can read the past, current and future from your face. The shape of the face is represented by the five elements of feng shui – fire, earth, water, metal and wood, which can indicate the base characteristics of a person.
When it comes to face reading, each facial part suggests your luck at a certain age point. For example, the forehead [represents one’s fortune] between 15 to 30 years, eyebrows represent 31 to 34 years old and your chin represents your later life.
There are also 12 palaces of a face which can tell us about a person’s life journey from early beginnings to their health, wealth, career, marriage, benefactor luck and virtue. The Wealth Palace, for example, is the nose.
The eyes are indeed the windows to a person’s soul. The eye shape can reveal a person’s sincerity.
Small, hooded eyes might belong to people who tend to take advantage of others, but of course, [one has to remember that] not all with hooded eyes are like that – sometimes, they come off as mysterious and attractive.
One must look into another person’s eyes when they speak, to make a better judgement.
You can apply some psychology on top of your gut instincts just as looking at their actions, attitudes and behaviours. Red flags will arise when their actions don’t match their words. If your worries and concerns are not addressed with respect and are simply swept under the rug by your other half, it could be a sign of gaslighting.
You can also look at those simple things like the location/s of the moles and scars, eyebrow shape, and their face shape. When meeting them face-to-face, you can memorise these features, and when you’re home, identify these areas and analyse it.
A lot of people change their face shape and features to make themselves more attractive or to look as similar as they can to certain celebrities. We can still base our judgments on their actions.
Chinese feng shui has a lot to do with common sense; we don’t place a toilet next to our kitchen stove, for example. In a similar context, we shouldn’t place our trust in a person whose lies have been exposed. We still have senses that allow us to identify whether that person is sincere whilst in conversation.
In Chinese face reading, it is believed that one’s appearance goes with the heart. Their attitudes, behaviour and thoughts will reflect their appearance. A sallow complexion may indicate a poor and unbalanced diet, [which might represent] a stressed and anxious character. Always look into their eyes when they are speaking to you.
The simplest way to identify a “lucky face” is definitely the complexion and health of the skin, moles (located at eyebrows or ear lobes bring good wealth), dull spots and marks on the face.
There are few areas around the face for us to identify a “lucky face”:
● The forehead symbolises early childhood and upbringing. A smooth, round, prominent, and wide forehead is a sign of good luck, power, and wealth.
● Straight and flat eyebrows show determination and solid character.
● Bright eyes with clear whites and eyebrows that are well-trimmed are signs of good health and wealth.
● A rounder, fleshier nose is said to bring fortune.
● Thicker lips that are rosy are said to bring luck and wealth for both men and women.
● High cheekbones with fleshy plump cheeks attract wealth and fortune. Fleshy cheeks symbolise authority and job success.
● An auspicious chin has to be slightly protruding with a strong jawline, which suggests a long and fruitful life with grandkids in the future.
The Spouse Palace is situated at your temples (the corner of your eyes). By looking at the Spouse Palace, we can determine whether one has beneficial love luck, if they are easily attracted to the opposite sex, and the complexity of their romantic relationships.
Here are the most important parts of a good spouse palace:
● Bright and smooth skin that doesn’t have any scars at the spouse’s palace is a sign of a potential happy marriage in store for that person.
● For a woman, the temples have to be fleshy and healthy to indicate an optimistic view on marriage.
● For a man, there shouldn’t be any hair around the temple areas as it indicates obstacles.
