Divorces can get messy and expensive — and celebs aren’t exempt from losing a chunk of their fortune due to divorce proceedings and alimony payouts. It’s not unusual to see high-profile pairs split and see millions of dollars change hands. Scroll down to read about some of the most expensive celebrity divorces.
Following the announcement of her divorce on June 22, Taiwanese singer Stella Chang is said to be receiving a whopping NT$1.6 billion (S$75.5 million) in alimony from her ex-husband, banker Sung Hsueh-jen. The amount includes cash, shares, and also a mansion.
After eight years of marriage, the couple divorced in 2011 but only finalised the settlements in 2013. Demi reportedly received a “very generous” payout from the couple’s enormous US$290 million net worth.
Their 2004 divorce was estimated at US$85 million, but not before three years of trying to reach a settlement. The Star Wars and Indiana Jones star was married to Melissa for 18 years. She sadly passed away late last year at the age of 65.
The actor-filmmaker split from wife of 26 years, Robyn, cost an estimated US$425 million. Robyn filed for divorce in 2009 which was only finalised in 2011, citing “irreconcilable differences”.
The music legend’s marriage to Mills, a media personality, lasted all of six years before ending in a bitter, acrimonious divorce that lasted two years and cost Paul an estimated US$48.6 million.
Who can forget one of the biggest sport scandals in recent history? The ex-golfing champion’s split from Elin Nordegren, after cheating on her with a trail of women, cost him an estimated US$100 million.
Their marriage crumbled after almost eight years, and the couple separated in 2008. The divorce cost Madonna an estimated US$92 million.
The veteran actor is now happily married to Catherine Zeta-Jones, but Michael Douglas’ divorce from first wife Diandra Douglas cost him an estimated US$45 million. They were married for 23 years.
Current US presidential candidate Donald Trump’s turbulent US$25m divorce from his first wife, Ivana Trump, was led by reports of his affair with a former beauty queen, Marla Maples. He’s now married to Melania Trump, who’s also a former model.

The Rolling Stones’ founder married the former model-actress in Bali, Indonesia in 1990 and lived together in London. However, they split following allegations of the rockstar’s infidelity, which cost him an estimated US$20 million.

Their short-lived marriage of four years ended with Amy getting awarded half of the famed director’s fortune – a whopping US$100 million. Amy reportedly said of the marriage, “During my marriage to Steven, I felt like a politician’s wife. There were certain things expected of me that definitely weren’t me.”
They met in university and married in 1978 after graduating. The marriage dissolved in 1994, by which Kevin had shot to fame, having won an Oscar and a Golden Globe. It’s believed that the divorce settlement cost him an estimated US$80 million, and the actor was worth about US$150 million at the time.
Much like the huge-grossing movies he directed, including Avatar and Titanic, his marriage to Linda involved a large settlement amount of US$50 million. Apparently, their relationship was full of strife behind the scenes, and the split was partly caused by James’s obsession with his work.
The soul legend was sued for divorce by second wife Diane after nearly seven years of marriage. The proceedings were estimated at US$20 million.
In perhaps the longest-lasting marriage of this list, and also perhaps the least bitter (the couple filed for an uncontested divorce trial), their 33-year marriage cost an estimated US$150 million.
