With temperatures predicted to soar up to 36 deg C thanks to the El Nino phenomenon in Singapore, it can be hard to beat the heat.
During this abnormal weather, the sunlight is at its highest intensity and heats up the ground faster. Here are some things you can do to cool off from the scorching sun.
You’ll likely be perspiring more during this season so be sure to keep hydrated and drink about two litres of water to prevent getting a heat stroke.
Make sure your kids too, get enough water by packing a water bottle for them in school and let them know how important it is to drink up during the hot weather.
With the sun at its peak, you can expect harmful UV rays to come at full force too. 20 minutes before leaving the house, make sure to apply sunscreen (so your skin absorbs it) and reapply through out the day.
The sun is at its hottest at noon so take the opportunity to go for brunch to avoid the sun. Or, carry a UV-protective umbrella (the ones with the silver screen inside the canopy) with you to shield from the harsh rays.
If you have to be out and about under the hot sun, keep wet wipes or a damp towel on hand, especially on the neck and shoulder areas. This helps you cool off and wick away heat.
Seek shelter immediately if you start to feel light-headed.
Lightweight and breathable clothing helps regulate airflow and wicks moisture. Pick clothes made of cotton, linen, chambray and above all, avoid blended fabrics (for e.g. polyester blend).
