5 Upcoming Korean Dramas You Shouldn't Miss This Year
Chief Of Staff

You really can’t go wrong with any shows starring Lee Jung Jae. He is headlining Chief of Staff as Jang Tae Joon, the faultless chief of staff to a four-term lawmaker. The show depicts a realistic portrayal of politicians and aides who are trying to climb up the political ladder and *spoiler* for some, their desire for power can make them do ruthless and despicable acts to get ahead.

Another plus point is the show’s star-studded cast, which also includes Shin Min A, Lee Elijah and Kim Dong Jun.

This season of Chief of Staff will be available on Netflix from June 15. The show has already been confirmed for a second season, coming out Novembere 2019.

Designated Survivor: 60 Days

Imagine being forced into a promotion you neither asked for nor wanted. Park Mu Jin (Ji Jin Hee) experienced that when he had to become Korea’s acting President for 60 days after being the sole survivor of an explosion that killed everyone else at the National Assembly.

What’s worse, he has to deal with a Chief Presidential Secretary (Heo Joon Ho) whom he just can’t see eye-to-eye with.

Based off the highly successful American TV series Designated Survivor, this Korean remake promises the same high tension suspense that its US counterpart is known for, but with additional twists in a localised Korean setting.

Watch this trailer below:

Designated Survivor: 60 Days will be available on Netflix from July 1.

Love Alarm

Warning: Watching this show might make you wish the app featured in the drama exists in real life. Love Alarm revolves around at app that will send you an alarm when someone who has romantic feelings for you comes within your 10-metre radius. How convenient!

Kim Jo Jo (Kim So Hyun) manages to find love through the app and her new beau just so happens to be Hwang Sun Oh (Song Kang), a rich model who has it all. Do they live happily ever after? Not quite.

Though the couple embark on a pretty perfect romance, they soon realise some problems in their relationship, especially when Jo Jo finds out that her long-term BFF Lee Hye Yeong (Jung Ga Ram) has been in love with her all this time.

Who can ever say no to a classic cheesy K-drama like this one?

Love Alarm will be available on Netflix on August 22.

Vagabond

Reunited for the first time since their show Gu Family Book in 2013, Lee Seung Gi and Bae Suzy are once again headlining Vagabond together. The drama follows the story of Go Hae Ri (Suzy), who decides to work as a secret ops agent to support her struggling family.

She meets a dashing stuntman, Cha Dal Geon (Seung Gi), who gets into a tragic airplane crash and accidentally discovers a national corruption scandal as a result.

This espionage drama series will also have you craving for your next vacation, with many cinematic action scenes filmed at spectacular scenic locations like Lisbon, Portugal and Morocco!

Vagabond premieres on Netflix in September 2019.

My First First Love

Back for the second season, My First First Love is returning to Netflix just 100 days after their first season’s premiere. The drama picks up where it left off, following the main five characters’ growth as young adults in the 21st Century.

In this season, things get complicated as the love triangle involving Tae O, Song I and DO Hyeon puts them in a tight spot as they try to balance friendship and love.

As for Hun and Ga Rin, this season will focus on their career and struggles of moving towards their dreams.

My First First Love Season 2 premieres on July 26 on Netflix.
