October 7, 2016

Bukit Timah is home to many expats, and also to: the most perfect scrambled eggs we’ve ever seen, $1.50 oysters, famous (and allegedly the best of the best) local food, and more.

Check out these cafes and restaurants we’re loving in this high-class residential district.

10 Cafes In Bukit Timah For Great Food And Coffee
1. Shelter In The Woods
image

Refined European flavours match the rustic allure of this traditional rotisserie restaurant, with tried and true classic like steak tartare to herb-crusted lamb rack.

Come the weekend, the brunch fare warrants a revisit. We love the shelter French toast (above) — egg pan-fried French brioche topped with berry compote and vanilla ice cream.

22 Greenwood Ave

2. Ristorante Da Valentino
image

Chef Valentino’s pasta is somehow familiar yet fancy — classic Italian food is laced with chef Valentino’s creative touch.

And when you’re adventurous enough to venture off the menu, the chefs would gladly oblige if you’d like them to actualise any special requests.

If you think you can take on more than your weight’s worth of pasta and pizza, there’s also a buffer lunch at only $45 per head.

#01-19, 200 Turf Club Road

3. Bakery Brera
image

This almost hole-in-the-wall artisan bakery is easyt to miss, but once you discover it, you’ll keep coming back.

Find freshly baked breads, pizzas, cakes and more. We were recently here for the newly-launched cruffins (pictured) — a croissant and muffin hybrid — that was all the hype among hipster New Yorkers in the U S of A. The verdict? A must-try!

#01-05, Block 8 Empress Mall, Empress Road

4. Atlass Coffehouse
image

To think we ever foolishly claimed to be able to cook scrambled eggs — this cafe certainly put us in our place. Would you just look!

The menu reads extremely well, from healthier options like salmon with soba noodles to full-fledge indulgence like butterscotch banana pancakes. You know where we’ll be at for brunch this weekend.

6 Duke’s Road

5. Choupinette
image

It’s a bold claim but we’re going to say it: Choupinette serves up one of the best egg brunches in town.

And before you leave, pick up a freshly baked croissant or five for an extended brunch at home.

#01-01, 607 Bukit Timah Road

6. Selera Rasa
image

Nasi Lemak (rice cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaves accompanied by a variety of dishes) is a well-loved Singaporean classic, and for this stall (which many locals simply know as “Adam Road Nasi Lemak”) to be crowned by so many as the best in Singapore, it’s a definite must-try!

This version comes with an otah (spicy fish meat), begedil (potato patty), a deep-fried chicken wing, a fried egg, ikan bilis (deep-fried anchovies) and a fiery-sweet sambal sauce.

Adam Road Hawker Centre, 2 Adam Road

7. Bonheur Patisserie
image

Our only gripe about these macarons: how could anyone bear to eat them?

If you can, good for you — these cutesy pops comes in classic flavours like nutella and vanilla aside, as well as trending local flavours like Thai milk tea.

#02-06/02-K63, 200 Turf Club Road

8. Greenwood Fish Market and Bistro
image

If anyone knows how to do fish, it’s the folks at Greenwood and the seafood is incredibly fresh too! Choose any fish, from safer choices like Atlantic cod to fish you’ve never even heard of (Mako shark, anyone?) and have them done any way you like.

Come Tuesdays, fresh oysters go at only $1.50 each. Go crazy!

34 & 38 Greenwood Ave

9. Dean And Deluca
image

Many know of their outlet that’s nestled in the heart of Orchard Road but not of this one in the west.

Hailing from New York City, Dean and Deluca makes for the perfect weekend bunch — think American breakfasts, pastries and more.

While you’re there, get yourself some of their home brand sweet treats. Our favourite is the Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Cashews.

#01-01 HillV2, 4 Hillview Rise

10. Sunday Folks
image

Their known for their waffles and ice cream but Sunday Folks also serves up some mean cakes and coffees.

Be sure to get there early though because the cafe usually has snaking queues with people waiitng to go in.

#01-52 Chip Bee Gardens, 44 Jalan Merah Saga
