5. Fat Chap
image

Because we’re a lover of Asian cuisine, this one got us pretty excited. Fat Chap is presenting a communal table spread or Kembul Bujana, a common Indonesian practice to party over a feast. An impressive, Instagram-worthy lush platter of Nasi Tumpeng (a Southeast Asian cone-shaped rice dish with side dishes) awaits — with coconut scented butterfly pea rice, roasted kampong chicken, grilled whole fish, tempeh, perkedel and sambal prawns. It’s also served with sides of prawn crackers, caramelised silverfish and peanuts, egg ribbons and a variety of vegetables cooked two ways. End the meal with a refreshing shaved ice dessert with fresh coconut and rose syrup – traditionally named Es Kopyor.

Before the meal, mum can also glean some tips from a live cooking demonstration by Medanese head chef Selamat Susanto. He will be showcasing a simple kampong chicken marinate recipe and demonstrating how to prepare perkedel or potato cake at home. Mum will thank you for this.

About: Available on May 12, 12pm to 5pm. S$68++ per pax. Call 6836 5994 or email hello@fatchap.sg for reservations.

Fat Chap is at #01-643 Suntec City East Wing, 3 Temasek Blvd, Singapore 038983.

Is your mum a fan of pretty, delicate things? Then she’d love this offering from TWG Tea. Its Mother’s Day Set Menu comes with a delectable Boston lobster spaghetti sautéed with garlic, espelette chilli, paprika and olive oil, accompanied by shimeji mushrooms and garlic flower tempura, and topped with Gyokuro Samurai tea leaves. Dessert is an alluring strawberry pistachio nut tart with mille-feuille cream and Silver Moon Tea infused strawberry jam, topped with a strawberry tuile and accompanied by a scoop of rhubarb sorbet.

The meal, of course, would not be complete without a cuppa tea — pair with either the Breakfast Queen Tea, a vivacious blend of green teas delicately balanced by notes of sweet lemon and a hint of noble rose; or the Sweet Romance Tea, a sweet blend of decaffeinated black tea and red berries beautifully accented with notes of raw vanilla bean.
