Wrap up the year with a host of seasonal cocktails. Some of these spiced-infused drinks conjures images of a wintry evening in a dazzling European Christmas market. Others are creatively balanced with Asian flavours. These special festive concoctions are available at these bars for a limited time only this year-end, so go ahead and drink up.
Origin Bar’s cocktails, handcrafted by bar manager Adam Bursik, perfectly capture the essence of the festive season.
The Sugarcane Hopper comprises cooling mint fused with dark rum, white chocolate liqueur and garnished with a candy cane. The Gingerbread Punch is a concoction of gingerbread spices with rum and whey, sweetened with cordial and topped with a cute gingerbread man cookie. And those who like their classic fruitcake dessert can revel in the unique Fruitcake & Tonic made with Origin Fruitcake Gin, incorporated with London essence tonic and plum candy.
Can’t get enough of these cocktails? You can even pick up a bottle or two of the Origin Christmas Gin ($88 for 500ml) for your home party. Origin Grill’s new English fruitcake-inspired gin is redistilled with cinnamon, cloves, almond, vanilla and candied orange. Rich with spicy notes, the gin is perfect for mixing into cocktails or tonic. Finally, if you’re looking for an edible (or drinkable) gift, opt for Britt’s Mulled Wine (available at $78 for 500ml). This popular product is created by Shangri-La Group head sommelier, Britt Ng who infused the wine with local spices such as nutmeg flower, cinnamon, star anise, cloves and gula Melaka.
Manhattan is always a good idea for your year-end revelry. Sip the Christmas Bijou, which is specially hand-crafted with a Regent Tea base infused with Farmer’s Gin alongside Mancino Rosso Vermouth and Green Chartreuse.
Regent Tea is a wine-like blend of Indian Darjeeling and China Keemun with golden calendula petals, and this drink is embellished with orange peel, maraschino cherry and gold leaf.
Or try a New York-inspired concoction: The Big Apple Cider consists of Michter’s Rye whiskey with apple cider, white wine, dry curacao, and Knickerbocker foam, and garnished with green apple slice. These drinks are available as a la carte festive specials from now till January 2, 2023 and also at Manhattan’s Sunday Brunches in December.
Manhattan’s team has also created other fabulously bold cocktails for your festive indulgence. They are the Frosty Bramble made with T&T Vodka, crème de menthe, pink peppercorn, lemon, and crème de cassis, and Mr Santa Claus composed of Siete Misterios Mezcal, crème de cacao, cherry, lemon, cinnamon, and foamy egg white.
Those who love coffee flavours will enjoy the richly flavoured Kris Kringle with Plantation Original Dark Rum, coffee, hazelnut, and tiramisu cream. These are served at Manhattan’s Christmas Village Sunday Cocktail Brunch (from November 27 to December 18) and at the Christmas Day Super Brunch on December 25.
Festive cocktails at Ginger.Lily are specially conceived for the holidays by head mixologist Michael Mendoza. Botanical Trail Mulled Wine is an eco-conscious mulled wine brewed with upcycled fruits and herbs, wine reduction and honey distillate.
The Clarified Eggnog is another Christmassy drink with a twist, made of a rich clarified milk punch with Plantation Rum Stiggins’ Fancy Pineapple, clarified milk and cream, and nutmeg. Negroni lovers can look forward to the potent 0°F (-18°C) Negroni made with Canaima Gin, Mancino Rosso vermouth, and Campari.
Those who want a booze-free option can celebrate with a Hot Chocolate Honey – this rich dark chocolate drink served with local bee farm honey is perfect on rainy days. The selection of festive cocktails are exclusively available in December.
SKAI’s Matsuri Sangria (matsuri means festival in Japanese) is a twist to the festive classic of mulled wine, thanks to the addition of Aperol Spritz. The bright and bubbly concoction includes aromatised red wine, blood orange soda, and prosecco. Enjoy this as a pre-dinner drink, or throughout the evening if you wish.
Kingston Chin, SKAI’s Restaurant Executive who recently came in third in the Remy Martin Barrel Aged Cocktail Competition created this vibrant, red-hued cocktail.
At this time of the year, there’s always a love for different sweet spices, berries, and citrus and I wanted a festive cocktail to have all these familiar elements in taste and smell. Mulled wine is a well-loved warm winter beverage, but I was inspired to give it a twist with Aperol Spritz to make it more refreshing.
The Okinawa no Mori is a tropical-themed rum-based tipple that resembles the “forest of Okinawa”. The combination of pineapple, yuzu sake, and kaffir lime is bound with fizzy ginger beer. Enjoy the drink with Wakuda’s punchy bites like shishito (fried Japanese sweet chili with grated bonito and chilli salt), crispy organic chicken (deep-fried marinated chicken) as well as vegetables & seafood tempura.
Alternatively pair your classic French festive feast at db Bistro & Oyster Bar with a glass of Rudolph’s Martini. Boost the festive cheer with this pretty pink-hued vodka-based tipple, whose flavour is heightened with Cointreau, spiced cranberries, and aromatic notes of burnt orange. This drink is only available from December 23 to 25.
Unwind over celebratory cocktails at The Lobby Lounge at InterContinental Singapore this holiday season. Reflecting the hotel’s year-end White Gatsby Christmas theme is an aptly named drink: The White Gatsby – a bold combination of vodka, amaretto, cream and nutmeg.
If you enjoy a theatrical display to liven up your festivity, indulge in the Fire Tongs Punch (Feuerzangenbowle), a traditional German drink for which a rum-soaked sugarloaf is set on fire and drips into mulled wine.
For something lighter, order The Lobby Grinch made with rum, pineapple and lemon-lime and soda. Or go for the Old-Fashioned Christmas, a classic combination of bourbon and cranberry.
Marry these drinks with signature festive dishes including the spiced honey glazed meat loaf, served with cranberry sauce and roasted brussel sprouts; as well as the confit kurobuta pork belly. These are available daily till January 2, 2023.
