Just like a lot of us, Fann Wong started baking a lot more during the two-month circuit breaker. From baguettes to brioche, the beloved actress wowed her Instagram followers with her culinary ventures on IGTV. Here, Fann shares her recipes for Muah Chee, Huat Kueh, and Gula Melaka Cake with us.
Muah Chee is a traditional snack that is favoured by the young and old alike. Fann’s recipe has only four easy steps and all it takes is 5 mins on the stove. Serve it up warm to make the most out of its chewy and sticky consistency, accompanied with a fragrant and nutty crunch.
Huat Kueh, or ‘prosperity cake’, is typically seen during Chinese New Year – but hey, there’s no rule saying that you can’t sink your teeth into these soft and fluffy cakes on non-festive occasions! You don’t need an oven to make these cakes either. The kids might enjoy watching the cakes “blossom” in the steamer too!
The year of the biggest Gula Melaka craze may be over, but one can never get enough of the sweet and salty, caramelised taste of palm sugar. Fann’s recipe combines that with the familiar pandan cake. It’s sweet, airy and moist — perfect for tea… or any time of the day, really!
