White Rose Cafe at York Hotel is well-known for its authentic Penang street food promotion that happens thrice yearly. The upcoming edition will kick off from September 1-17, and  the next edition will take place in December.

All the hawkers are flown from Penang, and there are 12 stalls serving dishes a la minute. Popular items include Penang laksa comprising thick rice noodles steeped in a tangy tamarind fish-based broth, and topped with pineapple, cucumber, bunga kantan (torch ginger), and lashings of fresh hae-ko (prawn paste). There are also  staples like Penang prawn mee whose soup comprises prawn heads, shells and pork ribs, and the famous char kway teow redolent of smoky wok hei.  The Penang rendition uses thinner ‘kway teow’ rice noodles and lesser sweet dark soy sauce. Another popular Penang street food to tuck into is Oyster Omelette or ‘orh-jian’ – a mixture of plump oysters, eggs, and rice flour batter is tossed over high heat to achieve a crisp omelette.

For sweet treats, munch on ban chang kueh filled with ground peanuts and sugar – these pancakes are made in customised small round pans that result in crisp edges and a chewy soft interior. Finally cool down with ice kachang  and  chendol laced with fragrant coconut milk and rich gula Melaka syrup.

Goodwood Park Hotel recently celebrated its 40th year in crafting creative pastries that showcase the durian. Following the success of its iconic Durian Mousse Cake in 1983 and introduction of the popular Durian Puffs in 1984, Goodwood Park Hotel’s Durian Fiesta has since become a highly-anticipated annual affair for durian fans. The hotel continues to impress with inventive takes on durian-themed pastries and desserts.

This year’s festival featured an exquisite line-up of decadent desserts featuring quality D24 and ‘Mao Shan Wang’ varieties. These include six new unique creations such as D24 Pandan Coconut Gula Melaka Cake, D24 White Chocolate Raspberry Enchantment and D24 Pineapple-Lime Zest Dome, D24 Honeyed Pear Mousse Bliss, Mini D24 Chocolate Ganache Almond Delight, and the D24 Paris Brest. Mainstays of the perennial event include the signature D24 Mousse Cake, D24 Crêpe, D24 Puff and Durian Ice Cream Tubs are available to boot.

Town Restaurant at The Fullerton Hotel is known for its ‘Seafood Symphony’, a specially curated buffet spread. Available on Wednesdays and Thursdays 6.30  to 10.30pm, the dinner showcases an array of international seafood delicacies.

Diners can watch the chefs in action at live cooking stations, including a slicing demonstration of whole yellowfin tuna, weighing up to 30kg. Meanwhile, salt-baked whole salmon and baked barramundi in Thai red curry spices will be served to your table. Also look forward to the outdoor charcoal grill which fires up spicy sambal barramundi and Nyonya-style barbecued bamboo lobster with chilli.

Guests also get to enjoy a one-time serving of the ‘Chef’s Special’ — sea urchin with Avruga caviar, soft roasted cauliflower and lobster dressing. Other new highlights include Asian-style fish and chips, served with peanut and fermented shrimp paste sauce.

To round off, you’ll get two unexpected dessert creations — liquid nitrogen ice cream topped with fish floss, caramel and salted walnut, as well as chocolate salted egg yolk lava with chocolate sorbet, topped with crispy fish skin. Classic treats from pulut hitam to French vanilla custard tart, alongside Peranakan kueh and cakes are served too.

Priced at $128 per person including free-flowing juices. Add $98 for free-flowing champagne, wines, rosé and sweet wine.

Lime Restaurant at Parkroyal Collection Pickering is known for its popular Lobsterfest – currently available until August 13. What you’ll get at this gastronomic festival is unlimited servings of lobster, an al fresco barbecue experience, plus a stellar line-up of guest chefs.

The Lobsterfest shines the spotlight on a bounty of fresh, succulent crustaceans  – from naturally sweet steamed lobsters to fiery chilli-laden and grilled creations. Highlights include steamed lobster with ginger garlic paste and Chinese wine, Singapore Chilli Lobster and Kam Heong Lobster. Other must-try chef’s specials include Lime Restaurant’s signature Lobster Laksa, Lobster Mac and Cheese, and Baked Boston Lobster Thermidor.

The Seafood Bar is also laden with whole fresh Boston lobsters, live prawns, black mussels, and golden clams. At the al fresco area, you’ll find grilled marinated rock lobsters sizzling over the grill, which you can complement with a selection of sauces like hollandaise, sambal, garlic basil and others. The buffet dinner priced at $166 is available Monday to Sunday 630pm to 930pm at $166.
