Always on the hunt for new dining spots? We bring you sound bites on where to eat, including new restaurant and eatery openings, the best places for your after-work tipple, and what’s new in the food scene.
This week: Check out Anna’s, a new bakery and cafe with a sourdough-centred menu, a gem-inspired afternoon tea experience at The Marmalade Pantry’s Ion Orchard outlet, a wildlife-inspired food trail, and more.
The Soup Spoon’s founder Anna Lim has opened Anna’s a new bakery cafe and retail space located at the idyllic Oasis Terraces in Punggol. Born out of the pandemic, the concept adopts the same philosophy of serving nourishing meals through sourdough-forward bakes, pizza, pasta and even drinks.
All bread and pastry dough, as well as cake batters, are proofed for at least 16 hours before baking to maximise their health benefits, flavour and texture. In fact, you can take a peek at the process through the glass windows of the slow-proofing room, too.
While whole loaves are available for purchase, you can get a sampling of its sourdough bread offerings through the Drips and Drops Diversity Board ($18++). This gets you two slices each of the house sourdough bread, as well as the malted rye and flavoured options of the day. It also comes with dips like an earthy mushroom parfait with smoked maple syrup and sundried tomato cultured butter.
For pasta, we recommend the Creamy Tomato Basil Sauce ($19++), which spotlights chewy and subtly springy tagliatelle in a thick robust sauce of tomato basil, cream mascarpone cheese and garlic. Spice lovers will appreciate the Red Sea Prawn Aglio Olio ($32) with chilli padi and juicy prawns. And if that’s not fiery enough, there’s a red chilli pesto on the side to take it up a notch.
The 12-in sourdough pizzas made with a house blend of botanicals and ancient grains, and cold-retarded for 24 hours prior to baking, boast a chewy and airy crust with complex flavours. There’s no going wrong with the hearty Margherita Sourdough Pizza ($24++) with fresh mozzarella slices on a tomato basil sauce base. Or you can go for the Forest Forager ($32++), a visual spectacle scattered with an earthy mix of maitake and shimeji mushrooms, arugula and edible flowers atop truffle cheese sauce. Each pizza also comes with chilli pesto and a moreish dipping gravy (for those who never finish their pizza crust).
If desserts made solely with wholegrain spelt and sourdough starter sound ‘too healthy’, the moist and dense Earl Grey Fig With Honey cake might just change your mind. Likewise, the Carrot Walnut cake ($8++) with shredded carrot and luscious cream cheese is good too. A crowd-favourite is the Sourdough Bombolini ($5.90++ each), made fresh daily and piped with a tangy lemon and passionfruit pastry cream, and coated in a mix of cinnamon and jaggery.
Anna’s is in the process of receiving its halal certification.
Anna’s is at 681 Punggol Drive,#01-04, Oasis Terraces, Singapore 820681.

The Marmalade Pantry and homegrown jewellery label Madly by former radio DJ Maddy Barber have come together for a special pop-up at the former’s Ion Orchard outlet, which spotlights a dazzling display of afternoon tea treats and gem education.
Dig into specially curated gem-themed sweets and savouries with the Bejewelled Afternoon Tea Set ($78++ for two persons), like a Beryl Panna Cotta Shooter with house-made blue and pink jelly cubes inspired by aquamarine and morganite gemstones. There’s also a Geode Cupcake with a hidden truffle shell ‘geode’ of molten Bailey’s Irish Cream, as well as a Limonata Lemon Cupcake crowned with green crystal sugar candy evocative of Merelani mint garnets.
Its savoury bites take inspiration from the bold hues of jewels, too. Make your way through morsels like Spinel Tartlet with flower crab claw and Avruga caviar, Ruby Bruschetta topped with a vibrant cherry tomato and thyme oil confit, and Smoked Duck Breast Focaccia with hoisin sauce and fresh raspberry.
You can learn more about the jewellery-inspired items by scanning a QR code on the cake topper. Or examine the finer details with a Madly gem loupe, complimentary with the first 50 Bejewelled Afternoon Tea Sets ordered during the pop-up.
While savouring the delights, you can also catch a ‘Lapidarist in Action’ through an
experiential zone from Madly’s Brand Experience Centre. The video, filmed in real-time, allows diners to virtually observe a live gem-cutting demonstration.
The Marmalade Pantry x Madly pop-up, is available exclusively for dine-in at The Marmalade Pantry’s Ion Orchard outlet, from Mon to Thurs (2pm to 6pm). Visit its website for more information.
We are closely connected to the biodiversity around us, and animal species play an important role in our natural ecosystem. To highlight this message and encourage conscious choices that protect the planet, Mandai Wildlife group has rolled out the Choose Good Food Trail (now till Nov 25, 2022), a tie-up with 20 local food establishments for exclusive eats and grocery bundles inspired by the diets of wildlife such as bananas, papayas, seeds, and grains.
What’s on the menu? Think Cucumber & Double Mint sorbet (inspired by the Sumatran Orangutan’s diet) from Birds of Paradise, a Mandai Hero Bowl from Grain Traders, and Garlic Seafood with Pesto Pasta by GoodFoodPeople that takes reference from one of the otter’s favourite foods — prawn. Other partners include Afterglow, Bamboo Bowls, Starter Lab, Huggs Coffee, Little Farms, Open Farm Community and Raw Kitchen. Check out the full list here.
A portion of the proceeds from the menu items created will go towards Mandai Wildlife Group’s conservation efforts in Singapore and the region.
For the second leg of the two-part Choose Good with Mandai campaign, the group is also introducing the Choose Good Game Challenge which spotlights ugly food, sustainably sourced seafood, plant-based diets, and how daily actions and lifestyle choices impact the environment. Players get to win prizes too, like the signature Panda Tour at River
Wonders, a private buggy tour around Singapore Zoo, and more.
