Gordon Grill is celebrating its 60th anniversary, and to mark this milestone, the esteemed restaurant is revisiting nostalgic time-honoured dishes from its past menus, available from now till July 30, 2023.
For starters, dig into Scottish Smoked Salmon ($32++), to the traditional Scottish Cockie Leekie soup ($17++), a comforting broth of barley, chicken and leek in a peppery chicken stock. The Seafood Bouillabaisse ($48++) arrives in the form of a light broth brewed for 12 hours, with a generous serving of succulent seafood, from a plump scallop to meaty tiger prawns, chunks of threadfin and juicy clams. It comes with a lightly tangy housemade rouille that lends richness, and baguette slices that you dip in the rouille, followed by the broth.
Delighting with both showmanship and good food, several dishes come flambeed tableside. The Flambe Steak Diane Tenderloin ($78++), pan-fried USDA Black Angus Tenderloin, is melt-in-the-mouth tender, and flambeed with VSOP, lending a deep flavour to the jus. Or go for the classic Chicken in a Basket ($38), with a crisp crackling and juicy half-spring chicken marinated in buttermilk, served with sweet corn pancakes, banana fritters and grilled garlic-butter corn on the cob.
For dessert, the Cherry Jubilee is flambeed at the table too. Silky vanilla ice cream, surrounded by a ring of sweet juicy cherries, flambeed with cherry liqueur. Another classic, the Bombe Alaska with its signature torched peaks, comes elevated with chunks of seasonal fruits embedded within the cake inside.
Available only on Gordon Grill’s birthday weekend (July 29 and 30, 2023) you can make it an unforgettable afternoon out by hopping on a Classic Car ride experience after feasting on the exclusive ‘Classic Car Club Weekend Roast Lunch & Ride’ menu – limited to five pairs of diners per day.
Gordon Grill is at Goodwood Park Hotel, 22 Scotts Road, Singapore 228221. Visit its website for reservations or more information.
LA-born sandwich chain Eggslut and homegrown seafood brand Jumbo Seafood have joined hands to roll out two
The Chilli Crab Sandwich ($16++) gives a delectable mouthful of Jumbo Seafood’s signature chilli crab, perfectly paired with cage-free soft scrambled eggs, nestled within a warm brioche bun. The addition of baby romaine provides a refreshing crunch, while a generous drizzle of delectable chilli crab sauce further draws out the sweetness of the crab.
Eggslut’s signature Slut, comprising cage-free coddled egg and velvety house-made potato puree, now gets spiced up with Jumbo’s spicy sauce and crab meat ($12++). Finishing it off is a sprinkling of chives and toasted baguette slices to scoop it all up.
You also have the option of swapping the Chilli Crab Sandwich for Chilli Crab Sub-Salad, with the buns replaced with arugula salad.
The new creations are available for a limited time only from July 7 to Sep 30, 2023, at Eggslut outlets at Scotts Square and Suntec City. Eggslut is at 6 Scotts Road, #01-12, Singapore 228209, and 3 Temasek Boulevard, #01-604/605, Mall, Tower 3 Suntec City, Singapore 038983.
For a romantic dinner, there’s none quite like Ocean Restaurant, which offers a mesmerising view of the S.E.A Aquarium’s Open Ocean Habitat with marine creatures like manta rays, sharks and various fish gliding by.
Chef Patron Olivier Bellin helms the kitchen, whose own two Michelin-starred L’Auberge des Glazicks in Brittany, France has inspired Ocean Restaurant’s menu. Dive into modern-European plates, with a focus on sustainable seafood, local produce and house-grown herbs. You get a choice of a four- or six-course meal that kicks off with two amuse-bouches.
For starters, there’s Seaweed Rice, served with basil puree, briny sea urchin butter sauce, and tender celtuce that adds a crunch. Perfectly cooked and tender, the Grilled Scallops are played up with an apple and grapefruit puree, and a reduction of orange and spices. Dried scallops, dry-aged for five days, are shaved over, lending bits of intense flavour.
Mains come in the form of melt-in-the-mouth tender Bourguignon-style Wagyu Beef Cheek, laced with a rich anchovy beef jus, and sweet-savoury black garlic sauce that elevates the meat. You can also go for the Butter-poached Dover Sole, served with butter and tokibo cream sauce, trout roe, and celtuce with basil.
Lastly, there’s dessert. The Apple Tarte 2.0 is a deconstructed apple tart of sorts, apple slices cooked low and slow for twelve hours. Two different fillings are piped into thin crackly cylindrical brick pastry – a refreshing green apple sorbet and a luscious caramel cream stirred with rum liquor and golden raisins.
The 4-course Degustation Menu by Chef Oliver Bellin is at $148++ per person. Ocean Restaurant is at 8 Sentosa Gateway, B1M, B1-455 & 456 Equarius Hotel, 098269. Visit its website for reservations or more information.

End it on a sweet tangy note with Mousse de Maracuja, for a light and tangy touch.
Apart from the Wife’s Feast platter, there are also tasty sides to accompany your meal. Not to miss are the chewy Pao De Queijo ($12++), served with a zesty tomato and chili sambal.
