Always on the hunt for new dining spots? We bring you sound bites on where to eat, including new restaurant and eatery openings, the best places for your after-work tipple, and what’s new in the food scene.
This week, head to the newly opened Shake Shack at Gardens by the Bay, dig into great steaks at Black Pearl Steakhouse’s new outlet, have plant-based meals delivered to your home, and more.
Shake Shack locales in Singapore have been known to pay tribute to their surroundings, and the newly opened and seventh Singapore store at Gardens by the Bay is no different. Be greeted by bright bromeliads, lush ferns, home-grown calla lilies, and more curated by the Gardens’ horticulturists when you arrive. There’s also no missing the lush floral chandelier and local artist soph O’s vivid botanical-inspired mural either.
Even the chain’s signature concretes get a botanical touch, with Berries by the Bay featuring vanilla custard, forest berry jam, and shortbread. Or go for Tropic Like It’s Hot, with mango, passionfruit, and shortbread.
Along with the opening, you can expect to dig into a new Roasted Garlic Mushroom Burger spotlighting an Angus beef patty paired with provolone cheese, sauteed portobello mushrooms, crisp shallots, and tangy roasted garlic mayo. Can’t get enough of the garlicky goodness? Order the Roasted Garlic Fries with the same garlic mayo and topped with parmesan and a sprinkle of fresh scallions.
The limited-time Roasted Garlic Mushroom menu will be available at its Gardens by the Bay outlet from Aug 28, and at other Shacks from Sept 3 till Oct 15, 2021.
Shake Shack at Gardens by the Bay opens Aug 28, 2021, at 18 Marina Gardens Drive #03-
02/03, Singapore 018953.
For one day only on Sept 5, you’ll get to savour the creations of four homegrown restaurants in one place.
No Sleep Club, Park Bench Deli, RVLT, and Two Men Bagel House will join hands for SG Dreamers, a one-day-only event happening at RVLT.
From wine bar RVVLT, you can expect a hearty roasted duck breast, and duck hearts stew with a sesame pancake. And while you might associate Park Bench Deli and Two Men Bagel House with hearty sandwiches, both will be putting out locally-inspired dishes instead; chilli crab scotch eggs and pickle, and smoked beef cheeks with rempah kunning as well as other condiments.
You won’t find any of its signature tipples from cocktail bar No Sleep Club, but four individually-portioned bites of smoked roe with chickpea cracker, char siew mushroom tartlet, rice cracker with chicken fat, and pork scratchings.
Date: Sept 5, 2021, Sunday
Time: 12 pm till 10.30 pm – Seatings at 12 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm and 6 pm
Venue: RVLT, 38 Carpenter Street, Singapore 059917
Tickets: $69++ per person, via Chope
Switching to a plant-based diet can mean your options are limited when buying takeaway while you’re working from home, or that you’ll have to whip them up yourself.
With that in mind, Insane Meals is here to save you time in the kitchen with ready-to-eat meals delivered to your doorstep twice a week. The newly-launched subscription meal plan has a wide range of flexitarian to vegetarian meals that run the gamut of Asian delights and Western favourites.
Think dishes like Sweet ‘n’ Sour Plork, Sayur Lovely Lodeh and Cheeky Mala Xiang Guo, all of which are made with tofu and plant-based proteins. The brand has also concocted a menu created with Impossible Meat, from the Impossible Burger to Impossible Chili Con Carne, Impossible Lasagne, and Asian Impossible Thai Basil Noodle.
Meal plan options include ‘Everyday’ at 12 meals a week from $204; and ‘Flexi’ at 6 meals a week from S$108. Menus are refreshed weekly, which you can check out on its website.
Making its debut in September 2020, mod Asian restaurant Avenue 87 is best known for dishes transformed by the memories, travels, and expertise of chef-founders Glen Tay and Alex Phan.
And the duo has recently unveiled a new tasting menu that builds on its contemporary Asian menu. You’ll start with a trio of snacks – Kueh Pie Tee, Prawn Sphere, and Camembert –, before tucking into fresh amberjack marinated with sesame oil and ponzu, and even creating your own mala hot pot with reduced bone broth, house-made mala oil and monkey head mushroom. The star, of course, is the USDA Prime Beef Short Rib served with flavourful garlic fried rice. Leave room for the desserts, which feature deconstructed takes on local favourites, chendol and orh nee.
Head to Lounge at Avenue 87, a sleek new bar at level two for post-dinner drinks, where you’ll get to sip on classics with a twist. There’s the G&T-inspired Botanic ($21++) with Rojak Gin, Melati and Indian Tonic, as well as Jambu ($21++) a reimagine Cosmopolitan that weaves in a creamy flavour evocative of bandung.
The tasting menu is available in five and seven courses ($98++ and $142++ respectively). Avenue 87 is at 47 Amoy Street, Singapore 069873. Visit its website for more information.
With its roots in Siglap, the established Black Pearl Steakhouse formerly known as Perle Noire has ventured into the Holland Village enclave with its second outlet.
Steak lovers are in good hands with prime beef cuts air-flown from Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and America with different marbling scores (MBS) and price points — including prized USDA cuts such as grain-fed Black Angus Ribeye ($61 for 350g) and Striploin ($63 for 350g) options.
You’ll also want to give the new menu additions a whirl, like the Wagyu Beef Egg Fried Rice with Egg ($26++). Or if you’re not in the mood for beef, check out the spicy Tom Yam Chicken Leg Burger ($26++), traditional French Duck Rillette Sandwich with Cold Cuts ($26++), or the hearty Salmon Burger ($26++).
Black Pearl Steakhouse is at 40 Lor Mambong, Singapore 277695.
