Most of us don’t fully realise how great our mums are until we’ve grown up, or until we become one ourselves. From being genuinely concerned about how your day went to making sure you never go hungry, the care and love mothers give are truly unconditional and at times, sacrificial when the going gets tough.
It almost feels like commemorating a mother’s efforts annually isn’t enough, and it really isn’t. Appreciation can be shown everyday, of course, but take Mother’s Day as the one day to spoil the first and most important woman in your life with no bounds… Circuit breaker restrictions included. With these takeaways and deliveries, you haven’t got a thing to worry about.
Treat her (and yourself) with Chinese, European all the way to Japanese fare this special day:
Take your pick between two set menus conceptualised specially for Mother’s Day by Executive Chef Ben Zeng of Hai Tien Lo, Pan Pacific Singapore’s traditional Cantonese restaurant with a contemporary twist. The Loving Home Mother’s Menu ($170 for two pax) showcases an eight-course meal with soulful staples from Chef’s Ben childhood, while the six-course Joyful Mother’s Menu ($276 for two pax) flaunts flavourful highlights prepared with the most luxurious ingredients.
While it may be hard for you to make your final decision, rest assured as they both will allow you to enjoy a gastronomic medley of traditional and fusion delicacies, such as the Traditional Mum’s Homemade Nutritious Soup, Braised Imperial Swiftlet’s Nest with Crab Meat and Stewed Lobster with Inaniwa Udon in Signature Homemade XO Chilli Sauce.

You don’t have to bid fine-dining opportunities goodbye even though we’re still in circuit breaker mode. The contemporary Italian restaurant headed by Chef Denis Lucchi will still be prepping their menu for Mother’s Day, all with a complimentary housemade nougat for the ladies. The significance comes from the Italian tradition of ‘mammas’ gifting children with these sweets during festivities, now with the roles reversed for this very special occasion.
Their menu ($98++, two pax minimum) begins with a Cuttlefish Salad, Chargrilled Scampi, followed by the Casoncelli ‘Ravioli’ with Taleggio Cheese and Porcini Mushroom, Chicken Casserole with Herbs, Capers and Potato, and then the Torta Ricotta Cheese and Pear.

Dig into a homely slice of pie from Firebake Woodfired Bakehouse & Restaurant, which will be whipping up their tasty Beef Pie ($55) in family-size this weekend. The satisfying bake is loaded with a rich beef stew, made with generous chunks of beef, cooked with carrots and celery, as well as aromatics and spices such as thyme, rosemary, bay leaves, star anise and cinnamon.
In the concoction, you may also find traces of tomato paste, veal stock, red wine; and definitely look forward to the crumble at first bite as the pie is enrobed in a decadent shortcrust pastry, topped with slices of cheddar cheese. You can also take up a similar offering but in chicken instead of beef at the same price.
If you think the pie looks a tad too humble, add a personal touch as you would on a cake to include a brief message on the pie (additional $5, 16 characters). It would be made out of cut-out pastry, so it’s extra the aw and the yum.
Available from 8 to 10 May 2020 for takeaway and delivery (at $10, or for orders above $80).
How to order: WhatsApp or call 9784 2950. Preorder recommended, personalised message requires two days advanced preorder.
