Hot on the heels of Jeanette Aw’s newly opened patisserie, fellow actor Rebecca Lim, 34, has hopped on the baking bandwagon together with her family.
Together with her brother Daniel, 35, they churn out sourdough loaves together with various gourmet toppings. Here’s what we know.
In an interview with 8days, Rebecca shared that their Instagram page, @thelimskitchen, has been used as a platform “for the family to upload [photos of] food that’s equally Insta-worthy and delicious.” since 2018.
After plenty of positive feedback on their sourdough loaves and queries on whether their creations were for sale, the Lims decided to sell their bakes.
While the avid home cook also knows how to bake, Rebecca leaves most of the baking to Daniel, sharing that he understands the science behind whipping up sourdough bread and that his loaves are better than hers. For now, they’re baking out of the kitchen in their parents’ condo.
Rebecca, meanwhile, mans the hotline and Instagram DMs alongside her younger sister Melissa, a dentist. Though, if there’s a higher demand, there’s a chance you could get loaves baked by the actress herself.
Each baked-to-order loaf weighs about 750g (about 12 to 16 slices), and is made with a dough that’s been fermented for 54 hours, so orders have to be made at least three days ahead. According to its Instagram page, there’s a moderate level of sourness.
With each order of a sourdough loaf ($15), there’ll also be a small 50g tub of truffle butter. You can also opt for gourmet toppings like crabmeat slaw and squid ink aioli.
The Sebastian Sourdough Bundle ($40), for instance, includes crabmeat slaw, squid ink aioli, and spring onion garlic cream cheese. You can even add on edible flowers to pretty it up.
Can’t wait to sample their loaves? You’ll have to get in the queue. They’re fully booked for the month of June, and will be opening up orders in July.
While the siblings have been taking in and handling orders via Instagram DM and WhatsApp, they’re looking to launch an online ordering platform soon.
