10 Things Every Career Woman Should Know
1. You can start from anywhere

Start building your dreams right from where you are at this moment. Despite starting off as a dumpster diver, hitch hiker and job hopper, Sophia went on to build an organization that now boasts 555,000 customers to date. It’s never too early to lay the ground work, no matter what your circumstance.

2. You don’t have to be a business woman to be a business woman

Turning a vintage grunge brand into an international phenomenon doesn’t exactly SCREAM amazing corporate strategy, but that’s just the beauty of it. If you’ve got an idea, don’t be afraid to explore the possibilities. Sounds out your dream with your closest buddies and take a quick 101 on owning your own business.

3. Stay humble

It’s easy for a stumbled-upon millionaire to hide behind the envious aspects of her fashion empire. In fact Sophia takes a hilarious approach to the not so glamorous rise to her success. Stay humble folks, let the success make the noise!

4. Don’t tame the rebellious beast

We’ve all got a beast inside of us. Big or small there is one nook in your being that is an absolute beast. The reality is it’s the fierceness of this beast that got Sophia her NastyGal success. Exude confidence, drive your passion and don’t forget to roar.

5. Don’t celebrate too early

“Money looks better in the bank than on your feet,” says Sophia and boy is she right. Money management is a pivotal step to entrepreneurial freedom, and you definitely won’t remember the number of holidays and pairs of shoes you didn’t buy when you taste success!

6. Following your passion is not cheesy

Sophia started her journey online by stealing books and reselling them, she quickly realized a better way to find merchandise to sell by scouring vintage thrift stores. So – that amazing talent you have at hoola hooping won’t earn you your big bucks, but stop for a moment to consider the option of weaving your passion into your career.

7. It isn’t what you do but how you do it

Vintage grunge – the biggest unique selling point of Nasty Gal, is not that unique. In today’s world, the unfortunate truth is that a new idea is often an old idea reimagined. The difference in Sophia’s case was the painstakingly concise curation of items she chose to sell. Precision is key, people.

8. Keep your goals right in front of your face

It sounds rather intuitive when you’re chasing your dreams, but we women tend to get a little side tracked. Success does not happen overnight, as in the case of Sophia. Write yourself short little mantras to help get you through those difficult times. Condition yourself to resilience.

9. Dive in, headfirst

It’s hard to predict the result of any venture and planning for ‘what if’s’ can often leave your dreams deflated. Take inspiration from Sophia’s dive in attitude and jump in for an experience of a lifetime.

10. Don’t let go of your appetite for new things

Sophia constantly went through many new and challenging experiences that eventually got her to her moments of success. Don’t forget to try, eat, do, and experience new things, it’ll change your perspective.
