If you had the opportunity to write to your younger self, what would you say? Six celebrities share heartfelt, honest notes to their younger selves, filled with advice, anecdotes and observations of how they’ve learnt, changed and grown over the years. Welcome to their letters!
This letter is from Lina Ng, who was our August 2001 and May 2005 cover girl.
Dear younger me,
Stay true to yourself. The entertainment industry changes people. Many folks start off being genuine, but a part of that always dies.
It saddens me to see it happen each time – I see young actresses entering the industry and I tell them, I really like your character. I like the person that you are, right now.
If you can remember my words, please, preserve who you are. Preserve your integrity and your passion for acting.
For one day, in your desire to climb up the ladder, you might be tempted to forgo the very values you hold dear to your heart.
In this industry, you’ll sometimes have to flatter people. If you’re engaged in something that you’re not comfortable with, always choose truth over deceit.
Honesty is the best policy. You are a talented actress, a host, and a comedian.
You’re so many things and that’s why you are unique. I love the bubbly, frank person that you are.
Stay authentic, and you will always be happy with who you are.”
Lina was featured for our 20th Anniversary special in the October 2017 issue. Here’s how to recreate her look worn in ‘Glam Squad’, which featured our favourite cover girls over the last two decades:
