Born The Honourable Diana Frances Spencer, Princess Diana rose to prominence in the British Royal Family after she married Prince Charles as a young woman in 1981.
They had two sons together, Prince William and Prince Harry, before their marriage hit troubled waters and they divorced in 1996. Just one year later, Princess Diana was taken from the world when she died in a high-speed car crash in Paris.
Her tragic death led to a huge outpouring of grief among the British public who remembered her for her charitable works, her fashion sense and, her grace and beauty in the public eye despite having her marriage so openly torn apart.

Princess Diana and her then-boyfriend Dodi Fayed were killed in a car crash in Paris in August 1997. She was laid to rest following a royal ceremonial funeral at Westminster Abbey that was watched or listened to by an estimated 2.5 billion people worldwide.
