While the former US President has made sweeping resolutions during his time as Commander in Chief, it’s his wife people look up to as a role model for women everywhere. Here are just some of the reasons why people, young and old, hold her in such high regard:
Michelle Obama is so adept at rousing a crowd, she’s been asked to deliver keynote speeches at the Democratic National Convention in 2008, 2012 and 2016. In fact, she’s SO good that other political wives have been accused of lifting passages from her previous speeches (we’re looking at you, Melania Trump!)
Michelle Obama is no stranger to doing the talk show rounds, but perhaps her most memorable outing so far has been her carpool karaoke segment with James Corden on the “The Late Late Show”. Michelle showed off her singing skills and even freestyle rapped a little bit with Missy Elliot.
The First Lady of the US has taken pains to protect her children from the harsh realities of being in the spotlight during their time in office. She’s fiercely protective of her family and always seems to put them first before politics and even her charity work.
Michelle Obama is all about Girl Power! One of the many initiatives she has pushed for is access to education for girls. Her new “Let Girls Learn” campaign aims to raise money and awareness for the 62 million girls around the world who do not have access to education.
During her time in office, Michelle has also fought hard to change the eating habits of America’s children. She’s a big advocate of eating well and eating green and has gone on numerous school tours to encourage youngsters to eat more fruits and vegetables.
One of Michelle Obama’s first campaigns as First Lady was the “Let’s Move!” initiative. She proved just what a cool person she was by busting out the rad dance moves to get children excited about getting fit and active. Here she is at the White House getting her groove on with some tiny visitors.
Never has the public had so much unrestricted access to the White House than before Michelle Obama started her social media takeover. She has accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and even Snapchat, where you can see candid snaps like the one above regularly on her feed.
While her husband usually takes the reins when it comes to dealing with world politics, Michelle has proven that she is also a formidable talent in the field of international relations. She is a Princeton and Harvard Law graduate after all!
Aww…these two! No other White House couple has displayed as much adoration for one another than Barack and Michelle Obama. Of their love, Michelle has said that “when people ask me whether being in the White House has changed my husband, I can honestly say that when it comes to his character, and his convictions, and his heart, Barack Obama is still the same man I fell in love with all those years ago.”
There’s a reason why Hillary Clinton asked Michelle to speak for her at this year’s DNC. Michelle has historically always supported the working woman’s agenda and had this to say of the former US Secretary of State:
“Because of Hillary Clinton, my daughters and all our sons and daughters now take for granted that a woman can be president of the United States.”
