Jonathan Anderson’s oeuvre at Loewe has been dominated by a strong Surrealism influence of late – and the Spring/Summer 2023 collection shows that is not changing anytime soon. For this season, the designer’s attention is focused on a marvel of the botanical world: the odd but wonderful anthurium flower, which Anderson describes as a “product of nature that looks like an object of design.”

Anderson explored different silhouettes and form in this collection with dresses that are exaggerated at the hip and tops decorated with “pixelated glitch” details that seem to come straight out of a video game.
And boy did he showcase the flower in its full glory. Life-size anthurium petals took over dresses – the latter also appearing on tops and on sandals. Besides the flower, the Surrealist touches are also evident in the shoes covered in clusters of deflated balloons and draped dresses with sharply pointed peaks on their necklines.

Making its debut this season, the Paseo is an east-west shoulder bag with a pleated leather design that is inspired by Loewe’s bags from the Aire Series in the mid-2000s. Available in either an S or XL version, the bag comes with a choice of leather handles or fun “doughnut” metal chains.
In his Fall/Winter 2022 collection, Anderson presented a supple leather version of the Goya Puffer. This time around, the bag welcomes a more luxurious finish in plush velvet.
You’ve come to expect some chic artisanal touches at Loewe each season and Jonathan Anderson delivered here. This bag, which can be worn either as a shoulder bag or a crossbody, is woven in multi-coloured raffia.
The iraca palm used to form the bag was harvested in Colombia before being handwoven by skilled women artisans from Corporacion Oficio y Arte, a local artisanal collective.
If the thought of having giant anthuriums on your clothes is a little daunting, then approach the aesthetic by dangling this charm on your bag instead.
Loewe has become known for their quirky approach to shoes, by crafting heels in the shape of bars of soap or nail polish bottles for a little shock factor. That tradition continues this season with this pair of slip-on mules with heels that reminds us of a chess piece.
