Take, for example, that time she looked like an angel descending from the high heavens when she wore a feathery frock from Jessicacindy to this year’s Star Awards. And who could’ve forgotten her Off-White by Virgil Abloh dress (above) at the Star Awards 2018, where graphic blooms and lively ruffles made her a standout amongst her other stylish peers.

There’s no denying that Felicia Chin has a great sense of style, so in celebration of this month’s cover star, learn how you can also look as good as her no matter where you go.

Felicia Chin's Top Fashion Tips On How You Can Look Your Best All The Time
1. A thin coat can double up as a dress
custom

Singaporean offices are notorious for being chilly (we know because our A/C is the same too), which is why wearing a coat as a dress makes sense. The key is to find a coat that’s light enough to be worn outside of the office, so look for a design without any lining inside. Also, it eliminates the need to have to bring a jacket, as the long sleeves help keep you warm too.

The vertical stripes on this coat instantly help you to appear taller and slimmer — two things that are always plus points in our books. To keep it securely closed, use safety pins on the underside of the coat to keep it from opening up and revealing too much.

2. Give your LBD a little more sparkle
custom

LBDs are a wardrobe staple, no doubt, and you probably have a couple hanging in your closet already. So instead of buying yet another plain black dress, work one with a little muted sparkle. Felicia’s fit-and-flare dress from Michael Kors is perfect for the office because the embellishments are tiny and don’t sparkle too much, but can also be worn to a cocktail event after office hours.

If all-over studs are too much for your tastes, then opt for a dress with a beaded neckline. Just as dressy without being too ostentatious.

3. Follow a colour story
custom

You’ve probably seen the term “colour story” being thrown around, but do you know what it really means? Simply put, it’s when you figure out a colour palette of shades that blend into each other, but stand out just enough. Felicia’s outfit here makes the perfect case, because the bright green dress anchors the look. To compliment, she’s used soft shades of yellow and a deeper emerald colour to add contrast.

Another way you can work the colour story trend? Start with a vermillion dress that’s belted in the middle, so as to ensure that the dress doesn’t overwhelm your figure. Then, to work with a colour story, opt for a pair of sandals in blush pink and scarlet, so it plays with similar shades that still stand apart.

4. Dress down a tweed jacket
custom

Tweed jackets are great workwear companions, but so often, they feel staid and a little matronly. Yet Felicia’s Chanel jacket averts that faux pas entirely because she’s chosen to pair it with a pair of ripped jeans and shaggy, blunt bangs. It’s instantly cooler and feels more effortless.

A grey tweed jacket definitely offers you more bang for your buck, because it’s a classic colour that will never go out of style.

Jeans, $79.90, from Topshop

If you plan on wearing jeans to work, avoid an awkward talk with HR by sticking to darker blue colours or a pair of black jeans.

5. Meet the new classic: a pair of pyjama pants
custom

Pyjama pants don’t necessarily strike one as being a timeless addition to your closet, but they actually do wonders when styled right. First, you have to find one that comes in a classic colour and cut. The safest bet is this pair of navy silk pants with white trimming, which Felicia is wearing. Pair it with a grey blazer for a more laidback office look, or team with a white t-shirt and sneakers to bring you to brunch in style.

These navy silk pants are just as stylish as the ones that Felicia has on. And even though they don’t come with the bold white trimming, the contrast in material between the stripes makes it more presentable.

6. When in doubt, max it out
custom

If maxi dresses aren’t your closet BFF yet, then you’re missing out. Firstly, it hides your food baby or parts of your body that you may not feel secure in, whilst simultaneously making you look more dressed up. And lastly, you can throw it on in two quick seconds and you’re ready to head out the door!

Bold, abstract paint swishes help to liven up a simple dress, which you can pair with office flats, mules or sandals to suit the occasion.

7. A dressy one-piece is more comfortable than a cocktail dress
custom

Party dresses are great fun to look at, but raise your hands if you’ve felt constantly annoyed at having to adjust your dress each time you stand up, or put up with having to sit and walk uncomfortably. With a jumpsuit, none of that will happen, because you now get to move around freely and without restriction. The only caveat comes when you go to the toilet, but that’s a little setback for the feel-good moments you’ll have in a jumpsuit.

YES, I'm BACK!!! How many of you missed me???? . Thank you for all the love messages since I've been back too.❤️ Really feels good to be home. Received some really good news today too, and I can't wait to share it with all of you❤️?❤️

Another dressed-up jumpsuit you can consider is this draped satin number. The disco vibe is apparent here, so avoid looking too much like Diana Ross by parring back on your accessories and makeup.

8. Wear sneakers and stripes together
custom

Headed to the office on a Friday? Let sneakers take you there comfortably (after all, it is Friday, and your feet deserve a break). To dress them up for the office, rely on banker stripes to help you look more polished and put-together. Felicia’s look here is great because it balance looking presentable with feeling comfortable, and frankly, there’s nothing better than knowing you have an outfit on that lets you enjoy both worlds.

Dress, $45.90, from Warehouse

A fitted shirt dress instantly gives you a more presentable appearance, especially when you have one in blue-and-white stripes. We recommend pushing up the sleeves, so it doesn’t look too overwhelming on you.

When wearing such a corporate-looking dress like the aforementioned striped shirtdress, it helps to contrast it with a pair of casual sneakers. Look for a pair in a darker colour leather so it’s not too dressed down for the office.
