15 Floor Tile Ideas To Create A Bigger Bathroom
1. Use large format tiles
image

Large format tiles can make a space look bigger, especially in a light colour like these wood-like St Regis tiles by Del Conca. A major benefit is that they reduce grout lines for a cleaner look. Can you use them in small bathrooms? Yes, if they are rectified tiles, which refer to tiles with near-perfect straight edges. Available at Rice Fields.

2. Mix patterns for style and safety
image

You don’t have to use the same floor tiles throughout the bathroom. Consider mixing tiles for different zones. Try adding mosaic tiles at the bathtub area to decorate the area, plus they provide more traction particularly in an area where slips and falls are likely to occur. Available at GF+A Global.

3. Get graphic
image

There’s nothing like graphic patterns to give a space a youthful vibe. The Puzzle tiles with matte finish by Mutina lets you do just that – with its blocky geometric look. They are also perfect for zoning into specific areas. Place them randomly for a dynamic space, or intersperse them with plain tiles.. Available at Rice Fields.

4. Tone on tone
image

A way to create a relaxing bathroom sanctuary is to keep colours to a minimum. It may run the risk of creating a dull space, though. Introducing tone-on-tone patterns helps to break the monotony. The soft and matte texture of the Kaza tiles brings a grounded feel to the bathroom. You can even zone in the vanity area with tiles bearing random motifs and complete the look with hanging plants. Available at Hafary.

5. Classic white marble
image

White marble continues to charm with its crisp look and feel. Invite more natural light into the space, with the high shine of the Maxfine Calacatta marble by FMG to reflect light into dark corners. For the ultimate look of luxury, customise your bathtub, walls and even bathroom sink in the same marble finish. Available at GF+A Global.

6. Celebrate bold patterns

With dark colours like black and navy blue entering living spaces, deeper hues are set to appear in the bathroom too. Worried it might result in a gloomy space? Find the middle ground with dark-coloured patterns – Janette is a patterned tile mixing blue, white, black and grey. This helps to keep the decor calm and light. Available at Hafary.

7. Monochromatic magic

Black and white is a classic that will not go out of style, in fact it will elevate the look of the interiors instantly. The pictured tiles, with discreet black diamond patterns, look great in compact bathrooms. Keep the rest of the surfaces simple with subway or matte white tiles. Available at Stiles Hub.

8. Coloured marble
image

With the repertoire of tile designs available today, you would think that marble patterns might take a back seat. However, the dramatic veins of marble remain much loved for its luxurious look. Go a step further with Florim’s Etoile de Rex tiles, a collection that takes inspiration from new and rare marble from around the world. Available at GF+A Global.

9. Heavy outline
image

Outlining patterned tiles with borders will also highlight zones. Much like a rug, the starburst patterns pictured are defined by a bold, black line. This instantly brings attention to the bathtub and puts it in  the spotlight. Available at GF+A Global.

10. Smart geometry
image

Geometrical patterns are all the rage, and hexagonal tiles forming triangle and circle patterns form a creative base. Such designs break the monotony of a utilitarian space and give it flair. The light colour palette of the Carrara Hexagon Flow tiles by Equipe Ceramicas suits small bathrooms. Available at Hafary.

11. Go natural
image

Go for a natural look with hyper-realistic wood patterns with high variation – like the Nuance tiles by Panaria. To create the illusion of a larger bathroom, use the same tiles on the lower portion of the bathroom wall. Available at Rice Fields.

12. Add visual texture
image

Introducing weathered metal finishes into spaces brings it a gorgeous lived-in quality. You can do that in the bathroom now with the Floor Gres Flowtech tiles. Available in russet, and burnished or aged bronze, these tiles provide rich visual texture that contrasts beautifully with matte white surfaces. Available at Rice Fields.

13. White & bright
image

Neutral colours have longevity, and some of the timeless ones are white, grey and black. White is a popular hue for many homeowners especially in the bathroom. These White Rhett porcelain tiles by Ceramica Viva give the brightness of white, as well as texture with its subtle concrete- like variations. 112 Think about the wow factor. If you’re planning a standout floor tile, consider decking out your shower area in a different tile. Available at Hafary.

14. A clean slate
image

The stone slate has a gorgeous texture that is loved both for interiors and exteriors. With the Mystone Lavagna porcelain tile, you get the inky hue of slate and its recognisable texture in the form of hard-wearing bathroom tiles. This has a timeless look that is clean and elegant. Available at Hafary.

15. Cobblestone inspired
image

Embrace the beauty of wabi-sabi with shades and variations in tiles. The Rue De St Cloud porcelain tiles by Ascot Ceramiche are inspired by old- world European cobblestones. The visual texture brings a laid- back quality to the bathroom, signalling a time for rest when you enter the space. Available at Hafary.
