After a culinary sabbatical across some of Europe’s top Michelin-starred restaurants, Chef Manel is now back and experimenting with a fuller menu and the wood-fired grill at Kilo Kitchen. Hanging potted plants at the entrance are great for creating a welcoming vibe.
The interior is painted with warm colours and when paired with accent pendant lights above the dining area, it creates a polished yet relaxed vibe.
Kilo Kitchen ‘s new look chic and raw interior was designed by Singapore and Jakarta-based Studio Dinding, who gave Kilo Kitchen floor-to-ceiling windows as well as custom-made furniture from Indonesia. “We tried to choose those that embodied a handcrafting process such as bent solid teak, woven natural rope and rattan. There is also the handcrafted, rusted metal surfaces; from adding acid to leaving it outside to get some rainwater and sun –- it took a few steps to achieve this!” says Jessica Rina from Studio Dinding.
“We paid homage to the Kallang venue through materials like the concrete flooring, distressed finishes and raw black metal. However, soft furnishings like throw cushions, the banquet seating, and leather panels at the bar help achieve the comfortable, homely aesthetic we wanted. Warm lighting and greenery help a lot too,” says Jessica.
“The marble and brass detail to the bar counters, and the feature hanging leather against the wall, elevates the bar. It is something we have always intended to do: a bar that is elegant and sophisticated yet doesn’t lose the essence of Kilo,” shares Jessica. Jessica will also be heading the interior design of the soon-to-open Kilo Jakarta.
Medium to large indoor potted plants were placed at strategic areas to bring a touch of nature indoors amidst the concrete interiors.Check out the 3,000sqf Kilo Kitchen (and its comfort modern food) at 97 Duxton Road.
