Big mirrors, white walls and floor-to-ceiling windows have one thing in common. They create the illusion of a bigger space for small spaces like small bathrooms. However, these are just temporary fixtures. For a more permanent fix, there is one trick you can implement to make small HDB bathrooms look bigger. These HDB owners in Singapore have all figured out the trick without compromising on style.

The answer? Open-concept bathrooms.

An open-concept bathroom means areas, such as the bedroom or vanity area, which are connected to the bathroom, are in full view.

Privacy can be an issue with these open concept bathrooms but, as these HDBs demonstrate, this can be countered with some easy solutions. Keep scrolling to find out how they make small HDB bathrooms look bigger.

The heavy white curtains ensure that the bathroom is kept out of sight in the sleeping area and help keep the air-conditioning in.

As planned by the designer, the strong pink of the room is balanced nicely by the bright sunlight and the white walls, giving this homeowner a feminine, private sanctuary. We know we said white was perfect but you could always add a pop of colour!

6. Glass Walls Give The Illusion Of Space

Much like hotel rooms, the bathroom and bedroom is separated by glass. We love that the shower area is not confined to a stall. Spacious! The use of gray tiles and stand-alone tub brings an elegant look to the bedroom.

When it comes to placing an open-concept bathroom in your HDB flat’s master bedroom, always remember to keep it simple to save space. If you’re really in need of storage, do what this designer did and let your headboard play double-duty with alcoves built-in for storage.

If you’ve got a small bathroom but still want to create an open concept feel, choose light-coloured tiles.

With only a small space to work with, this designer made use of the light-coloured tiles and glass door of the bathroom to help the bedroom appear larger.

The walk-in wardrobe attached to the master bath was tailor-made for celebrity Vincent Ng and his wife. The lighting used in the shower resembles a halo, and adds to the overall sensuous ambience.
