Be creative with your dinner parties and make it themed. The easiest way to do this is to tie it to a holiday like Martha and Snoop’s Christmas Deck the Balls potluck or base it on a particular type of food such as sushi like in the ‘Something Fishy’ episode.
You have got to put in effort into what you are wearing as the host. Find the balance of functional and fashionable because you’ll have to pop back into the kitchen from time to time to put the finishing touches to the food. Keep it hood classy like Snoop with a velour tracksuit or do a Martha with a cashmere poncho and always, always remember to accessorize with some bling.
Practice using your cutlery properly or what Martha calls ‘eating European style’. No one wants to see you chowing down on some fried chicken with your bare hands. Unless you’re Snoop.
Take it from Snoop, there is no such thing as too much bling. Go big or go home with a crystal encrusted goblet with your name on it to let your dinner guests know you’re rolling in dough.
Just because it’s a pizza party doesn’t mean you can’t luxe it up. Do what Martha and 50Cent did and make it rain truffles. If there’s champagne, keep it poppin’.
Get guests sippin’ on gin and juice throughout the evening. Cocktails are a great way to get guests to loosen up and keep it mellow.
Throwing a dinner party allows you to bring together a diverse bunch of people so make sure you think about the chemistry. Snoop and Martha keep their dinners interesting by pairing actress Jamie Chung with musician Jason Derulo and model Ashley Graham with rapper Rick Ross.
As the host, it’s your job to make the evening enjoyable. Create engaging conversations by asking your guests intrusive questions like “Have you ever had a sex injury?” or make inappropriate comments like “To clarify, I’m not high right now”.
While you might not have the benefit of rapper Fat Joe laying down some rhymes during the party like Snoop and Martha do, always get a playlist ready to go. Music helps set the mood whether it’s slow jams for an intimate group or OG rap to get the party started.
Have your guests help you out in the kitchen. But make sure to keep a close eye because someone may pull a Wiz Khalifa and drop some ‘special’ herbs into the mix when you’re not looking.
Catch Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party which premieres tomorrow, 7 August, on TLC Southeast Asia at 9pm.
