Candles are a great idea, whether as gifts or to spruce up your home before the guests arrive! If you haven’t started on your Christmas shopping, there’s still some time to cop your favourite seasonal scents from these homegrown and renowned candle brands!
Local online purveyor of cult candle brands MellowOver is offering a variety of scented goodies for the time of the year. Get on an olfactory wanderlust journey with limited edition festive candles from American brands — P.F. Candle Co, Brooklyn Candle Studio, Boy Smells and Paddywax. Orders above $50 will also receive a complimentary set of specially designed, luxe copper foiled Christmas card as well as a silkscreened pouch. We are smitten with this Spruce candle, described as “Dense forest floor, sunshine and snow, corner tree lots. Snow powder, blue spruce, cedarwood, and citrus.” To us, it just smells like the end of the year, relieved and relaxed.
The French perfumer’s latest festive collection is inspired by the constellations in the nightsky. Diptyque’s three limited-edition scented candles, Pine Tree (Sapin), Spark (Étincelles) and Snow (Neige), which envelop the holidays in emblematic winter scents faceted with new and singular tones, are presented in specially decorated glass vessels. The limited edition metallic lantern (for classic candle) features oval cutouts, which project an endless array of captivating rotating shapes when lit.
Jo Malone’s scent for the holiday is white moss and snowdrop, featuring a smooth and iridescentscent blend fit for a sparkling atmosphere. Forest-fresh moss, and delicate snowdrop petals warmed with golden amber and luminous cardamom invigorates your senses as soon as the wick is lit. Couple it with the brand’s beautifully packaged advent calendar for a multi-sensory countdown to the year end.
Handpoured using a blend of coconut and soywax, Oraifa’s candles are made in small batches on the island. The two festive scents are Festive Party, with notes of berries, pine and musk, and Holly Jolly, featuring notes of cranberry, pine and vanilla. These artisanal candles come with coloured waxes for setting the perfect mood this season.
Aside from running candle-making workshops Nine Wicker also offers interestingly-named (and scented) candles. Their Christmas range includes Scandinavian Woods, comprising woody notes of pine cone, juniper berries and fir, and Alpine Clouds, aptly named for its fresh scent of balsam and juniper berries. Each candle also comes topped with dried botanicals and actual gemstones.
The Rituals Co. specialises in creating candles filled with positivity and colourful gemstones. There are three Christmas scents to choose from, including Christmas Wonderland, Cherry Merlot and Brandy Spiced Pear. Our favourite is the Winter Wonderland crystal candle, which is handcrafted with natural botanicals such as Palo Santo wood, pine cone and topped with a green Aventurine crystal symbolising calmness, abundance and luck.
If you are looking for something more personal and bespoke, consider Odette’s personalisation service, where customers can request to print a name or short message on the candle label at no additional cost. Choose from over 32 different scents and bundle your candles with accompanying holders and scented tealights too.
New on the scene homegrown brand Zendle is offering a variety of Christmas bundles from its regular scent collection. The candles come in bold-coloured concrete jars that can be refilled once your candle has burned out. Refills can be ordered directly on their site as well, which saves you from trying to find new uses for those pretty jars. The blends smell rich and indulgent, with ample throw, ensuring your living room will smell just as festive from all corners. The 3-candle Christmas bundle is a great bargain, with three regular-sized candles going for just $89.25.
Cryst Candles come beautifully scented with individually handpicked gems, as well as personalised labels complemented by affirmative phrases. Get them as a perk-me-up for yourself, or as lovely stocking stuffers for your friends and family. For this Christmas, the new candle brand is offering pinetree-shaped candles in a modern linear style. It’s great for the dining table or even beside your bed (keep away from flammable materials).
Local brand Conspicuous Scents is turning heads with its ‘feel good’ new age philosophy of being kind to the earth and using only natural resources, that includes using recycled materials for its packaging and pure beeswax for its candles. With sophisticated sandalwood notes and a touch of rosemary, mint, and vanilla, the succulent fragrance of its Christmas candle transports you to the warm homely feel of festive delights to enjoy huddling around the Christmas tree with your loved ones as you create magical memories. The hand-poured beeswax candle is infused with just the right touch of each aromatic scent to evoke the merriness of kinship and comforts of childhood Christmas treats, preparing your olfactive for the best season of the year. Beeswax is known for providing a clean burn, with minimal soot and smoke emissions, meaning you’ll not have to worry about getting a negative reaction from any chemical reactions.
Transform your space into a self-care haven with Skin Inc’s range of candles which can be used singularly or together to create a custom scent just for you. This capsule collection is made up of six unique scents, hand-poured soy, with scents ranging from Amber to Lavender.
