Pineapple Tart Tea & More Unique CNY Teas To Serve Up This Year
Pineapple Tart Tea, from $8, from Ette Tea.

Known for their unusual teas flavoured after foods, Ette Tea is presenting a pineapple tart tea this season (they offered a smoky bak kwa tea last year). Made from a blend of black tea, caramel, dried pineapples, and marigold flowers, this is a calorie-free version of the popular Chinese New Year snack.

Alternatively, you could take your pineapple tart experience to the next level by having both. Available online.

Lucky Lychee Rose Tea, $26, from T2.

The time-honoured combination of lychee and rose makes an appearance in tea form for T2’s Lucky Lychee Rose Tea, an aromatic combination of lychee pieces and dried rosebuds, all packed in an adorable teapot-shaped box.

For maximum auspiciousness, brew your festive tea in their Golden Pig Mesh Infuser, created specially for this year’s zodiac animal. Available in T2 stores and online.

Cold Brewed Sparkling Teas, $55.20 (for 12 bottles), from Gryphon Tea.

Replace the usual sugary CNY sodas with something a little more refined that’s definitely better for you: Gryphon Tea’s two new cold-brewed sparkling tea flavours.

The Tomatino with Orange is made with African bush tea infused with a healthy blend tomatoes, oranges, carrots and beetroot; while their Chamomile Dream with Apple features floral chamomile, marigold, lemon verbena and apples. Available in selected supermarkets like NTUC Finest and Cold Storage, and online.

Cha King Tea, from $27.50, from TWG.
image

New from TWG this year is the Cha King tea from their Haute Couture Tea collection. Expect fine green tea lifted with a hint of prized Silver Needle leaves, and balanced with citrus and floral notes — perfect for pairing with Chinese New Year sweets.

The red-and-gold tea caddy also makes it an eye-catching centrepiece for any festive table display. Available at TWG stores and online.

Beauty Fruity Tea, $39, from Creme Simon.

This caffeine-free wellness tea by Creme Simon is said to promote healthier skin and hair thanks to the collagen-forming enzymes in the sweet blackberry leaves and rose hips, known to accelerate skin healing. Also in the mix are elderberries, blackberries, raspberries and strawberries, which not only help to rid water retention and puffiness but are also good for preserving liver and kidney health.

Balance out the tartness of the berries with a drizzle of honey or add apple juice and muddle with strawberries for a refreshing twist. Available at Creme Simon stores and online.

Year of the Pig Tea, $48, from Newby Teas.

Encased in a charming tin featuring this year’s zodiac is Newby Tea’s limited-edition festive blend that marries black Assam tea with pieces of fibre and protein-rich almonds. We reckon this nutty tea will go swimmingly well with anything savoury from the table of goodies. Also available in a red caddy. Available online.

Pu Erh Chrysanthemum, $7.65 (for 12 cans), from Seasons.
image

This new blend by Seasons comes with no added preservatives or colouring. Best served chilled on a hot day, this light-tasting blend of fragrant Pu Erh and floral Chrysanthemum tea comes unsweetened – perfect for those watching their sugar intake. Available at leading supermarkets and convenience stores.

Sparrow’s Tongue by Camellia Tea Bar, $20, from Teapasar.
image

If you must have your annual bite of pineapple tarts, pair it with this oolong tea from the Wuyi mountains. It is shaped like a sparrow’s tongue – hence the name, and is roasted ever so slightly with floral notes. So while the tea helps to cut through the richness of the buttery and sweet pastry, it does so without overpowering its flavour. Also available in an exclusive CNY piglet box for $32. Available online.
