A spacious kitchen, and a palette of blue and yellow — that was the brief Carmen Tang from Wolf Woof received, as she set out to infuse the two-bedroom condominium with a refreshingly modern Mediterranean-inspired theme.

Carmen came up with the concept of the Mediterranean-inspired home as she wanted to create a calm, tranquil home for them to relax in. “This is especially important with the new work-from-home needs,” she says. As for the colour scheme, she proposed using navy and white as the predominant colours, with yellow as an accent hue.
The homeowners themselves chipped in with creative ideas for the home, such as using a sunny rug as wall decor. As a result, the look is a unique collaboration between both homeowners and designer.

The home features geometric tiled accents and plenty of botanicals that add a contemporary, yet relaxing holiday-home feel. The wall decor is actually a rug, which the homeowners had decided to display in pride of place instead of on the floor.
In the living room, Carmen incorporated a niche cabinet that serves as extra storage and also adds an interesting accent with its arched design.
One of the challenges they faced was having handles that wouldn’t be an eyesore on the cabinet. To resolve the issue, Carmen came up with the creative idea of using planter boxes as handles, so they blend into the decor when not in use.
To play up the look, Carmen designed the TV feature wall to resemble a chimney. “I personally love this feature,” she says. They explored several options for the finishing, and eventually settled on tiles that were rustic but not too raw a finish.
Below, the console features a custom-designed patterned panel, and the additional space on both sides pulls double duty as storage space and additional banquette seating for guests.
The kitchen features a combination of new and old cabinets inherited from the ex-owners. For a cohesive look, Carmen decided to make new doors for the old cabinets and changed the finish to match the new cabinets. This helped to create a whole new look without having to spend extra money on removing and installing all-new cabinets.
To accommodate the homeowners’ commonly-used appliances such as the coffee machine and electric kettle, Carmen included a niche in the new cabinets. A kitchen island was also added so that they had more storage for pots and pans.
