No.1 de Chanel is Chanel’s sustainable beauty line – and we love us some luxury makeup from the renowned French brand. All nine products from the range feature Gabrielle Chanel’s emblematic flower, the camellia.

Ahead, we put each product from the range to the test – a $1,079 worth. Keep reading for our honest thoughts on No.1 de Chanel.
What is it: This buildable watery foundation offers you a sheer layer of coverage to even out your skin tone and subtly disguise any blemishes. Plus, it is made of 94 per cent naturally-derived ingredients such as red camellia oil to nourish and hydrate skin throughout the day. Comes in 20 shades.
“One great thing about the range is that all the products smell great, including the N°1 de Chanel Revitalizing Foundation in B10 (30ml), $114. The red camellia itself doesn’t have a distinct scent, so Chanel reimagined what it would smell like.
The result? Fresh and slightly floral but not too sweet nor overpowering. I applied this foundation with my fingers and enjoyed how easily it settled into skin, just like skincare. Though the texture is light and almost watery, it doesn’t compromise on coverage and I didn’t feel like I had to reach to extra concealer when I had an acne spot or two.” – Elizabeth Lee, Her World editor-in-chief
“It was lightweight and went on just like a tinted serum. Bonus: You don’t even need a brush or sponge to work it in! The coverage is quite buildable.
Two layers will take you from medium to full coverage. It imparts a lit-from-within glow and stays that way for hours, without separating or settling into fine lines and pores. A mixture of two shades (B10 and B20) blended well with my olive skin.” – Letty Seah, Her World associate beauty editor
“This foundation is nothing short of amazing. With the extreme climate in Singapore, I’m someone who’s extremely picky when it comes to finding the right foundation that’s not too heavy on my skin, yet provides sufficient coverage.
And this foundation does just that. It’s lightweight, blendable and it gives my skin that nice dewy glow. And while I’m not a fan of dewy finishes, this particular one by Chanel is definitely an exception.
As for the application, I recommend applying it with your fingers or even with a beauty blender for a more natural look — and to set it with a setting spray to lock everything in.
I used it for a full day with a mask on, and I’m actually quite impressed that it didn’t budge at all. However, I do have to admit that I had to do some minor touch ups around my nose area because I am guilty of rubbing it every now and then with my mask on.
I actually have dry to combination skin, so I really appreciate how hydrating the formula is, and it didn’t look patchy on my skin.
Overall, if you like something that offers light to medium coverage, a dewy finish and one that’s mask-friendly, this foundation is definitely a serious contender.” – Shazrina Binte Shamsudin, Her World digital writer
What is it: Infused with red camellia extract, this serum aims to prevent and reverse the signs of ageing.
“The fast-absorbing serum sank instantly into my skin and left a cooling sensation (perfect for hot days) and silk-like finish. Not the least bit tacky.
It also has an alluring scent that made me feel super relaxed. It did a great job of firming and lifting my skin. After two weeks of consistent use, my laugh lines and forehead creases were less noticeable.” – Letty Seah, Her World associate beauty editor
“As someone who’s in her mid-20s, I would say I don’t have a lot of fine lines and wrinkles, to begin with — so it’s hard for me to judge if this serum did help with correcting any signs of ageing.
However, I have to admit that the luxurious texture and smell of this serum has definitely left me with quite the impression. With a rather thick texture, I was amazed at how fast it absorbed into my skin.
And with this serum, a little goes a long way. In fact, I only used a pea-sized amount for my entire face. It feels really calming on the skin and I even noticed that my complexion was a lot plumper. Not to mention, it helped in boosting my skin’s moisture content and it offered a subtle glow immediately after application.
However, with the red camellia as its core ingredient, the serum does come with a strong floral scent — so some might have mixed opinions about it.
In my opinion, I found the scent really calming and pleasant, so it didn’t bother me and I found it quite relaxing to incorporate it into my daily self-care ritual.” – Shazrina Binte Shamsudin, Her World digital writer
What is it: This velvety salve calls on red camellia extract and red camellia oil to reduce wrinkles, boost radiance and hydrate while keeping irritation at bay.
“Though it has a rich texture, it went on smoothly and is non-sticky. A little goes a long way and it leaves behind a subtle fresh fragrance.
Despite it being a rich cream, it didn’t feel heavy upon application. It quenched the thirst of my dehydrated skin and plumped fine lines between my brows and around my mouth area. It is the perfect base to prep my skin for foundation.” – Letty Seah, Her World associate beauty editor
“The texture of this cream is absolutely sublime. It goes on seamlessly onto the skin and with its rich texture, I was surprised that it absorbed really quickly into my skin. I’ve used it a couple of times, and I have already noticed that my skin feels a lot smoother than it was before.
Similar to the serum, the cream does come with a strong floral scent as well, but it’s not too overpowering. On top of that, I really love how this cream didn’t feel sticky after applying it, and it’s not too heavy as well, so it’s perfect if you’re using it in the day or even at night.” – Shazrina Binte Shamsudin, Her World digital writer
What it is: Red camellia extract combined with the brand’s “light complex” makes puffy and dull under-eyes look perkier and energised right away.
“The clever blend of red camellia extract and the luminous light complex instantly masks darkness under the eyes. I was even tempted to skip concealer altogether. It’s my favourite product in the range!” – Letty Seah, Her World associate beauty editor
“This eye cream is a must-try for anyone who has dark eye circles. For someone like me who loves staying up all night, I’m diligent when it comes to applying my eye creams.
And while I’ve only tried this eye cream a few times, I have noticed that my eye bags are slowly getting better.
Sure, I do wish that it would banish them instantly, but with consistent use, I can see how it can definitely improve the look of my dark eye circles. Of course, coupled with a better sleeping routine, you would probably see faster results too.
What’s more, I recommend using this eye cream in the day before applying your concealer as it helps to nourish and hydrate your skin. Skin looks less patchy and helps to make blending a breeze.” – Shazrina Binte Shamsudin, Her World digital writer
What it is: Spiked with red camellia oil, this multi-purpose lip and cheek balm heals and hydrates while imparting a wash of colour.
“It might look like a pigmented fiery red but one quick swipe will show you that it sheers out upon application.
As a balm, it kept my lips soft throughout the day with minimal touch-ups required except after meals. It doubles up as a blusher too, and all you need is a few small dabs on the apples of your cheeks for a pretty flush.”– Elizabeth Lee, Her World editor-in-chief
What it is: This silky-fine powder that’s infused with red camellia extract and red camellia oil transforms into a dense foam upon contact with water to gently sweep away impurities and dead skin to leave skin supple and radiant.
“Easily one of my favourite products in the entire range, the N°1 de Chanel Powder-to-Foam Cleanser (25g), $76, just makes sense.
All you need is just a tiny bit to get a great lather. Plus, the bottle is super lightweight and will travel well. Tip: Make sure your hands are dry when you try to turn the cap shut as the smooth surface can get slippery.” – Elizabeth Lee, Her World editor-in-chief
What it is: Inspired by the red camellia, French perfumer Olivier Polge created this fresh scent in collaboration with Chanel’s Fragrance Laboratory. To demonstrate the contrast between softness and vitality, Oliver blended feminine floral notes with a heart that brought out the warmth of the sensual camellia flower.
“The lively and bold citrus and red berry notes are paired with fresh jasmine, and romantic rose. Together, they dry down to a non-heady sweetness that works for everyday. – Letty Seah, Her World associate beauty editor
What it is: The serum-in-mist works double duty as a makeup setting spray and hydrating mist, and leaves skin with a dewy glow, thanks to a concoction of red camellia extract and red camellia oil.
“If you need an afternoon pick-me-up, the N°1 de Chanel Revitalizing Serum-in-Mist (50ml), $125, is your go-to product.
The lightweight mist can be worn on bare skin or used over makeup for a quick refresh. I love that the mist is so fine and doesn’t leave any sticky or tacky residue, and that skin glow is an added bonus.” – Elizabeth Lee, Her World editor-in-chief
