Cardboard cereal boxes never seem to close properly, so cereal tastes stale long before you finish the box.
Becky Holden McGhee, a mother from the UK, recently shared her free folding #lifehack to keep boxes closed. The video has been viewed over 4.3 million times and shared over 17,000 times on social media because it’s clever, free and satisfying.

But while we love how tidy it makes the box look, this method alone is probably not enough to keep contents fresh in humid Singapore – it’s worth investing in food sealing clips or air-tight containers for your cereal (as well as biscuits, spices and more!).
Here are seven cheap options you can shop now:
Rubber bands are great and all, but water and air can still seep into the bag even if you think you’ve tied it tightly. Get your hands on these barrette-style plastic clamps that will help seal food bags in a snap and are easy to open too. These ones from Amazon are available in a range of colours and sizes to suit different types of packaging.
At $19.70 for 38 pieces (excluding delivery).
These colourful sealing sticks take up hardly any space and are ideal for keeping snacks crispy and frozen food fresh. They come in different sizes (eight to 28 cm) to suit the width of different food packaging too! It might seem a little tricky to use at first, but just follow the step-by-step guide via the Shop Now link below and you’ll be a pro in no time.
At $5.90 for 13 pieces.
A similar option to #2, this version of the sealing stick comes with the added benefit of a hanger, helping you save countertop space and maximise cupboard space in a pinch. Available in three different colours, you can colour code your food items for even more convenience. It’s also 25.5-cm which fits most food packaging.
At $31.98 for a set of three.
These square containers stack neatly on top of each other to save space. The really great thing about this set is that all the lids are interchangeable, so you always have the right lid. With mini sizes, small, medium and tall, you can store everything from tall pasta to cookies. Best of all, they’re certified free from BPA plastic – BPA plastics can transfer to some foods, so they should not be used to touch food.
At $56.80 for a set of six containers.
Cute and space-saving, these re-sealable plastic bags come in different sizes and have a gusset bottom so they can stand up while you fill them. Perfect for storing nuts, spices or snacks like cereal, and easy to stack in a freezer, like books.
At $3.20 for six pieces.
These 12-piece stackable containers are a great price, and come with brightly coloured lids that are interchangable, so there’s less searching for the right lid. A handy feature is the integrated pouring spout, so you can serve cereal right from the container. The boxes can also be used in the fridge or microwave.
At $12.79 for a set of six containers.
Small kids and elderly family members will love the large handles on these air-tight storage boxes. Handles make it much easier to pour the contents and slot the stackable boxes back into your cupboard or fridge. Another benefit is the raised lip around the lid – it helps the containers stay tightly stacked.
At $15.24 each.
