You might have heard of the “Middleton effect” where any outfit Kate Middleton wears to public occasions and formal events quickly get identified and gets sold out. But did you know, the eldest son of her and Prince William also has the same star power? Known as the “Prince George effect”, any clothing and products seen on him fly off the shelves too. The young prince, who is third in line to succeed the throne and likely to become king, has now been identified as a style star. As such, in celebration of his seventh birthday on July 22, we’re looking back our favourite looks of Prince George.
Since he was an infant, Prince George has already been impeccably dressed. Seen here a few months shy of his first birthday, George sported a striking red cardigan while on the tour with his family in Australia and New Zealand in 2014.
Doesn’t this picture of Prince William and Prince George twinning with their monochromatic blue outfits warm the cockles of your heart? This shot was taken outside St. Mary’s Hospital in London following the birth of his sister Princess Charlotte in 2015 and the father and son look absolutely adorable in the matching outfits. Plus points for matching the colour of the shorts and socks too.
This image of Prince George and Princess Charlotte was one of the first photos of the two released by Kensington Palace. If you take a closer look, you’ll notice that the cerulean trim on his white is actually the same shade as the knee-high socks. Whether you’re dressing yourself or your child, you can use the same principle to subtly tie an outfit together. George would later go on to repeat this outfit at other formal occasions, following after the sensibilities of his mother Kate Middleton.
Seen here at the christening of his sister Princess Charlotte, George looked especially rosy and healthy as his red outfit complemented his flushed baby cheeks. The red trim on the white shirt is another nice nod to the red shorts too.
He may be third in line to succeed the throne, but it seems like Prince George is very much like any other kid. Just take a look at the way he’s playing with his green polo tee accompanied by camo bermuda shorts at the 2019 King Power Royal Charity Polo Day. Another tip: if you don’t want to fuss with your child’s laces, get them a pair of slip-ons, like the ones you see here.
Like many parents who love soccer, dressing your kid in a jersey is another way to get matchy-matchy.
This happy family portrait (sans Kate) was released to celebrate Prince William’s 38th birthday a month ago. We see George’s mischievous grin as he looks on the camera with sister Charlotte and younger brother Louis in tow.
