Travel might not be on the immediate agenda right now, but there’s no reason not to prepare for a more than likely future when the borders have reopened and the world gets moving with a vengeance.
Here to help that is Rimowa, which has released a limited edition seasonal update to their Essential line of luggage. This collection comes inspired by the arid climes of the Mojave Desert – a rather apt metaphor for the times we’re in, void as it is of the thrill of international travel.
Rimowa’s famous polycarbonate suitcases get two new shades of Desert Rose, a dusty pink reminiscent of the Mojave’s pastel-tinged sunsets, and Cactus, a moss green sampled from succulents dotted across the desert.
These shades are wonderfully subdued, with an attractively faded kind of vibrance. The seasonal desert colours are available on the Essential suitcases – the brand’s famously lightweight yet sturdy line – in three different sizes: cabin, check-in L and trunk plus.
Fans of Rimowa might also be relieved to know that the stickers have not been neglected in this collection. The brand’s sticker designs have typically hewed to iconic cities and landmarks as travellers’ badges of honour, but they are switching things up this time to evoke the spirit of the southern United States’ vast landscapes, as well as feelings of wanderlust.
Good news, however, if the colours pique your interest and you’re not quite in the market for a new suitcase: Rimowa is also releasing the Desert Rose and Cactus shades as iPhone cases. These tap on the original (and very successful) launch of the brand’s polycarbonate grooved iPhone cases in 2018, and expand on the bestselling offerings of aluminium, leather and iridescent polycarbonate. These cases aren’t just pretty, the shockproof TPU bumpers provide fantastic grip, comfort and protection on the go – not unlike their full-sized counterparts.
The Desert Rose and Cactus colourways from Rimowa are available at Rimowa stores at Mandarin Gallery, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, Raffles Hotel Arcade, Changi Airport Terminal 2 and the brand’s website.
