We’re calling it – the trench coat is the new power outerwear. Lightweight enough to wear on its own as a dress, this season offers up plenty of deconstructed options that also work as separates.
A skirt with roomy side pockets and a nipped-in waist helps to balance out your silhouette, and you can pair this with a slouchy graphic knit. Also, you can add subtle colour by stacking a charm bracelet with your watch.
Sweater, $795, from Coach. Alberta Ferretti skirt, $1,279, from POIS. Charm bracelet from Pandora. Shoes, $520, from Sandro.
High-waisted trousers give the illusion of longer legs, which is a style win. Find a shirt that’s cut slightly narrower at the shoulders for a better fit, and team with structured accessories to finish.
Bag, $477, from Bimba Y Lola. Shirt, $150, from COS. Pants, $123, from Topshop.
Cinch in a voluminous coat at the waist to create a curvier appearance, and accessorise with hints of gold. Give your look some extra texture with a draped striped skirt.
Tibi skirt, $630, from Tangs. Coat, $3,167, from Stella McCartney. Shoes, $210, from Pretty Ballerinas.
It’s hip to be square! Plaid is having a moment in the spotlight now, and we are loving its endless options. Anchor each look with one plaid item, and build around it.
Use a boxy jacket to balance out top-heavy figures – bonus if it’s got highlighted vertical details – and style it with a structured skirt. A pussybow blouse also helps to exude ladylike charm.

Dip into an endless palette of hyper-saturated rainbow hues. From calming pinks and blues to citrusy shades of yellow and blood orange, it’s time to get colour crazy.
A structured jacket tailored longer on the shoulders helps to balance out your hips, and can be worn with a swishy knit skirt. Mixed-width stripes help to downplay your lower torso.
