As we all know, Singapore’s been in a bit of a heatwave recently. Not only has it been unbearably sunny outside, the humidity does crazy things to one’s hair, skin and general state of happiness. Speaking on behalf of The Weekly team, there are days we look out the window and we can already feel the sweat patches forming even before we step out the door.
While eating in the comforts of the office air conditioning can be a respite from this crazy heatwave, we believe that the weather shouldn’t be a buzzkill to lunchtime joys.
The solution? Opt for short-sleeved shirts that are office-appropriate but breezy, so you won’t be sweating buckets by the time you’re back from lunch. Here are 12 you’ll love that won’t hurt your wallet.

A brightly-coloured top will make your day brighter at work (we hope)! If you’re not one to shy away from colour, try pairing this with a cobalt blue skirt or a yellow pair of pants.
A boxy silhouette helps to hide your post-lunch paunch, and remains relatively cooling thanks to its cutaway shape.
The wrap detail is one of the most universally flattering and figure-busting tricks. It helps define your waist and plays up chest, giving you a more voluptuous figure. We think the white dots help you look fresh and peppy amidst a sea of dull office greys.
Instead of pairing a white shirt with your pencil skirt, why not experiment with prints? A multi-color scarf pattern is an easy way to inject some fun into an otherwise serious outfit.
ICYMI, broderie anglaise tops are trending right now. Wear this preppy-looking shirt with some wide legged culottes and a pair of chic sandals.
Alternatively, if exaggerated embroidery isn’t your scene, try one with a classic lace instead. It not only adds an air of daintiness to a piece, it also helps add texture to your look.
Match your fave bright lippie with an equally bold coloured top, like this one that comes with a subtle floral pattern.
The great thing about this cargo blouse is that you can look effortlessly polished even when donning a casual outfit. Give your taupe top some visual excitement by throwing on some colourful stone jewellery and you’re good to go!
This versatile cobalt blue top can be worn to work with a midi skirt, or on the weekend with denim cut-offs. It’s also a great addition to a simple suit, and when you’re headed out for lunch, just ditch the jacket!
Go for subtle bell sleeves to add some drama to your work outfit. Better yet, take it one step further and amp up the arm-drama by stacking a couple of chunky bracelets too!
Complete this with a midi-length skirt for an office-ready look, or get groovy with a pair of flared jeans for the weekend!
A ruffled hem helps jazz up an otherwise classic blouse, and provides you with plenty of movement and room for when the weather gets unbearably hot outside!
