Everyone loves a holiday, but sometimes, the experience of flying takes the joy out of your travels. And we totally get it! After all, no one particularly enjoys being crammed into a metal tube with a hundred other strangers, having to put up with bad food as the dry air-con blasts in your face.
To help you survive your next flight, we polled our team members to ask them what they would bring on-board their flight. Whether it’s a salve for your fingers or a jacket to keep you warm, here are some recommendations that The Weekly team swears by.

7 Weird Things That Happen To Your Body While Flying
“I have a maroon pashmina scarf that I bought in Nepal, and I always travel with it. It acts as a blanket on board, and when I land, I have a stylish wrap at the ready. Opened up, I can use it for extra warmth for my body—I can also twist it up around my neck or over my head when it gets dastardly cold. And because it’s such a beautiful colour, it goes with everything. I always travel with it, even if it’s to a warmer destination. You never know if your hotel room is extra cold, or if it gets nippy on board. And yes, I’ll admit it acts as a security blanket of sorts!”

“My cuticles and hands have a tendency to really dry out during a flight, making them very prone to cuts and hangnails, which can be very painful. A hydrating hand cream is an absolute essential, and I tend to favour those with a balm-like texture that doesn’t feel heavy or sticking after application.”

“A hydrating mist is a must-have for me. The cabin air is super dry, and it’s not always easy to get to the toilet to have a face wash. So a hydrating mist helps helps refresh myself and keeps my skin moist throughout the flight.”

“Becoming a mum means I have to carry a lot more stuff around and an indispensable item on any road, plane or train trip is a diaper bag to carry all of baby’s essentials and then some. Chic diaper bags are hard to come by but some of my favourite handbag designers thankfully already make styles expressly for this purpose.”

“Chapped lips are an absolute no-no for me, because not only does it mean that I have to put up with the pain that come with tears, it’s also quite unhygienic. I’ve gone through a few lip balms, and my personal favourite has to be the one from Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour range. It’s got a lightweight texture that doesn’t feel clogging, and it’s forms a rich moisturising barrier on your lips to protect it from drier and colder climates.”

“A trusty jacket to keep warm on the plane! We all know how cold the cabin can get, especially on overnight flights. I put it on when I get to the airport, and I don’t take it off until we’ve landed. I usually choose one that’s a bit roomy as well for extra comfort.””

“I always bring a pair of over-sized sunglasses to protect my peepers from the sun, especially when I am at the window seat enjoying first-class views of the endless skies. Also, it’s useful as it helps to cover my eye bags after a long flight with little sleep, and it is also great as a style statement once I land.”
