Winners and awards aside, the ceremony is also all about the fashion. And this year’s red carpet looks did not disappoint, with celebrities decked to the nines in their best and most glamorous duds. Here are 10 best looks at the star-studded celebration of film and television that took our breath away:
We don’t know how she managed to walk or sit in this larger-than-life Valentino Couture gown from the Fall 2018 couture collection, but Lady Gaga was breath-taking in this strapless ensemble which was designed by the maison’s creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli. Made of silk faille that features puffed off-the-shoulder sleeves and a colossal cascading train, only the Queen of Pop can pull this look off so immaculately.

When you’ve got it, flaunt it. That was what British actress and Crazy Rich Asian star Gemma Chan did when she nailed her red carpet look in this petrol blue Valentino gown that showed off her long limbs. The halter-neck number is a show-stopper, with a cinched waist and eye-catching bouffant train. Gemma went with a pair of statement earrings and matching heels for her accessories — which gives her look a simple elegance.
Crazy Rich Asians’ star Constance Wu was an ethereal stunner in her nude coloured Vera Wang gown. Featuring a saucy corset-like bodice and a floor-length, bouffant tulle skirt, what we adore about her dreamy look is the decadent orange velvet bow (a red carpet trend this year!) that secured her waist, which gave an unexpected touch of colour and fun to her ensemble.
Julia Roberts is a classic example of how you don’t have to turn up in a glamorous gown to look on point. Walking the red carpet in a spunky yet classy Stella McCartney two-piece that featured a skin-coloured one-shoulder top and a pair of black satin-blend trousers, she proved that a glam goddess can pull off just about anything. Edgy and polished — we love.

A burgeoning actress who is best known for playing Betty Cooper in the drama series Riverdale, Lili Reinhart rocked her Golden Globes debut by appearing in a sultry Khyeli Couture red tulle gown. By accessorising her look with a pair of matching satin stilettos and sparkling drop earrings from Swarovski, her ensemble exudes a refined and contemporary poise that is well beyond her age.
The Mary Queen of Scots actress was one of the last to arrive, but shone in a plunging silver chainmail gown and lots of sparkly accessories. This included 34.88-carat emerald earrings with 1.36-carat diamonds, an emerald ring set in 18k white gold and another diamond ring. She kept her hair sleek and simple to keep the jewels front and center. Dazzling!
Dakota Fanning knows what works best for her doll-like features, and she showed that in a silver satin Armani Privé gown which played up her girlish ethereal charm. The five adorable bows on the back of her chic floor-length dress gave a princessy vibe to the otherwise sleek and alluring piece. What’s there not to love?
Penelope Cruz was absolutely divine in her dazzling Ralph and Russo number. This black pearlescent floral jacquard gown, which features a sensual silk velvet halter neck bow and Chantilly lace overlay embellished with scattered metallic gold crystals, played up her strong features and made her look like an enchanting, ravishing beauty. We are enthralled.
Legendary supermodel and fashion icon Heidi Klum was all about grace and style when she struck a pose for the cameras in this black Monique Lhuillier gown. Bold yet whimsical, the girly organza piece’s beautifully decorated 3D floral motifs and translucent corset top complemented her radiant skin perfectly.
This 60-year old beauty was the epitome of cool and class at the red carpet. Jamie Lee complemented her elegant alabaster long-sleeved, crystal encrusted thigh-high slit gown by Alexander McQueen with a shocking head of white hair, as well as a matching clutch, a pair of floral motif earrings and nude pumps. Captivating and imposing, she proves that age is just a number.
