Love city driving? You’re in for a fun ride with the Mini Electric.
This is Mini’s first foray into electric vehicles (and the second for the BMW Group after the launch of the i3) and we reckon that this could be a game-changer for the category. There are two major reasons why.
First, Mini produces some of the most recognisable cars in the world, and that’s exactly what fans know and love about the British marque. Modelled after the Mini Cooper S, there are (thankfully) no futuristic aspirations for its electric version — just good ol’ curves, a petite body and signature rounded headlights that’s familiar, lovable and endearing.
Secondly, the Mini Electric provides an incredibly enjoyable drive. With an almost go-kart like feel thanks to its suspension system with a single-joint spring strut at the front and a multilink rear axle, lowered centre of gravity and front wheel drive. It’s incredibly zippy and goes from 0-100km/h in 7.3 seconds, so it comes as a surprise to learn that it actually weighs 145kg more than the Cooper S.
