While nuts, rolled oats and dried fruits seem healthy, granola often contains plenty of extra sugar because of the dried fruits. So if you love granola, opt for the high fibre sort that doesn’t include dried fruits.
Pineapples are delicious but they also contain plenty of natural sugars. So, if you’re going to snack on them, make sure to portion control.
Dried fruit may contain some fibre and minerals but plenty of times, they’re also filled with sugar and other preservatives so they last longer on store shelves.
Smoothies found in stores often contain plenty of added sugar and milk so they’re definitely not good for you if you’re looking to lose weight. Some stores might not even use actual fruit in their smoothies so be careful if you’re buying it instead of making it yourself.
They’re a great alternative to fried potato chips but corn chips can also contain plenty of MSG and preservatives to give it flavour, causing you to bloat more.
Don’t be fool by their green colour! Spinach pasta often contains very little spinach and you’re better off eating wholewheat pasta.
Peanuts are a great source of healthy monounsaturated fats that your body requires so low fat options usually cut off the required nutrients you need and instead, replace them with fillers and other preservatives so that they don’t expire so easily.
Beans are a great source of fibre for your digestive tract but the canned variety often contains plenty of sodium, preservatives and MSG so they keep for longer.
Iceberg lettuce contain plenty of water, (up to 95.6g of water for 100g of lettuce) so you’re not getting as much nutrients as you think you are.
Opt for greener vegetables like romaine lettuce, baby spinach or kale for a healthier salad
Tea is great but the sort sold in cans and bottles often contain plenty of sugar and preservatives to keep it tasting ‘fresh’.
