Actor, singer, producer, entrepreneur and so much more. Reese Witherspoon is a stalwart who’s proven her worth in the industry for the last 25 years. And to show just how much she’s adored, the who’s who of nearly 200 industry A-listers joined her in celebrating her 40th birthday.
True to her New Orleans roots, the décor was Mardi Gras inspired. Guests included husband James Roth, friends Robert Downey Jr., Mathew McConaughey, Jennifer Aniston, Chris Martin, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Courtney Cox, amongst many others.
Between tequila shots and heartfelt speeches, Keith Urban took the stage for a special performance dedicated to the Legally Blonde star.
To top it off, Taylor Swift soon took over with a spontaneous concert and kicked-off the dance party with her mega hit Shake It Off.
The birthday party ran into the wee hours of the morning, the best way to end any celebration.
We’re wishing her the happiest of birthdays by going down memory lane and listing the life and relationship lessons we learnt from some of her most memorable characters:
- Legally Blonde
There’s no one more driven and inspiring than the innocently quick witted Elle Woods. She taught the world to take control of a situation like a boss and prove the haters wrong, while letting karma take care of the rest. And of course, the bend and snap.
Tracy Flick might have been the walking nightmare of your existence, but the girl knew what she wanted and wasn’t afraid to get it. She remained unapologetic to her dreams and was unscathed by judgment. And not to forget, the hardcore campaign strategy she ran…We’d always ‘Pick Flick’.
She might have lost a shoe, and a lot of weight, but Cheryl Strayed reached closure to her tumultuous lifestyle and the loss of her mother by learning to accept herself as she was. She taught us that one doesn’t need anyone but ourselves to feel loved and complete. Preach girl.
- Walk The Line
June Carter was a woman of substance and she showed us why belief, trust and resilience is so important for a relationship, both personally and professionally.
- Friends (recurring guest appearance)
This lesson serves more as a warning than a lesson- sisters can be a pain. Jill Green made us all recall why we love to hate our siblings….and why we shouldn’t take ‘sharing is caring’ for granted. Remember when Jill tried to date Ross? It’s Rachel and Ross… Forever.

Some days you just have to stop and smell the roses.
