1. They write their own music
Unlike many other groups who solely rely on songwriters and producers, BIGBANG actually involves themselves heavily in writing and producing their music and lyrics. Leader of the group, G-Dragon, has penned and composed many of their songs, including “Lies” and ” If You”, inspired by real life events.

2. They're multi-talented
They can sing, dance, act and are fashion icons in their own right. Besides being one of the biggest boybands in the world, T.O.P., Seungri and Daesung have also acted in Korean dramas and film and G-Dragon an award-winning fashion icon, and has even collaborated with Giuseppe Zanetti to launch a limited-edition collection of men’s and women’s shoes.
3. They've conquered international charts
In 2011, their album Tonight was the very first Kpop album to reach Top 10 on the US iTunes charts and the only non-English album in the Top 100. They were also the first Kpop group to claim a spot on the Billboard 200 for their 2012 EP, Alive.
4. They've headlined 15 shows, including 2 sold-out world tours
They began with a 12,000-strong audience at their debut concert way back in December 2006. From there, they began to rise rapidly in popularity, to a point where their shows would sell out in less than ten minutes! BIGBANG made their first foray into South East Asia in 2008, performing here in July that same year. Were you one of the 200,000 fans that got to watch them live?
5. They have successful solo careers too
While the quintet make a solid team, complementing each other and working well together, they’re not afraid to take a hiatus and showcase their own individualities too. Sometime in 2013, the group took a break from the band to focus on their own solo shows.
6. They're trendsetters
Whether it’s their dance choreography, fashion or hairstyles, the group has no doubt been big pop culture influences. Their dance for “Bang Bang Bang” became somewhat iconic in 2015, and if you’ve noticed many Korean male stars lifting up their shirts to showcase those chiseled abdomens, you’ve got BIGBANG to thank!
Taeyang also made the faux hawk one of the trendiest male hairstyles of all time, and the brands they wear have gained a cult following, usually selling out in days.
7. They involve fans in charity work... at their own concerts!
The quintet asked fans to bring along bags of rice to their concerts, which are then collected and donated to charities. At the first show in which they did this, 12.7 tons (or 11,521 kg) or rice were collected from fifty fan clubs all over the world.
8. They're heavily decorated
It’s no surprise that BIGBANG has won numerous awards – 472 to be exact – in both their home nation and the international scene. They have won the 2011 MTV Europe Music Award for Best Worldwide Act, a total of 12 Mnet Asian Music Awards and a whopping 31 nominations. We’re certain that it’s just going to keep going up!
9. They put on spectacular concerts
The group certainly doesn’t hold anything back when it comes to their shows! Known for their gigantic and lavish stage sets, colourful costumes, props and, of course, amazing choreography, the boys did not disappoint at their 10th anniversary concert last night. They performed on a huge platform, with fireworks and flames shooting out in a dazzling display, with the whole thing recorded on state-of-the-art cameras for posterity.
10. They're already planning for the next 10 years...
The group has no plans on stopping, and the fact that they managed to pull off such an amazing show even after 10 years just shows that they’re still growing with the times.
In a recent interview with CNN, T.O.P. shared, “I hope we have been making new examples that didn’t exist before. I want to become someone who can contribute a lot to the Korean culture. Whether it’s music, performance or a video, I feel like being someone who can always show something new and proposing new ideas to people.”
Even with South Korean’s mandatory national service on the horizon, we’re sure that the boys will continue making an impact in the hearts of their fans and continue to shape the music scene for years to come.
