Crispy beancurd or tofu is considered a traditional Chinese dish that’s not just easy to whip up, but addictive and makes for a great dinner table addition, especially if you’re short on time. This recipe by famous chicken rice chain Boon Tong Kee features a light and crispy exterior that uses its housemade Crispy Powder ($2.20+), which houses soft silken tofu within.
- 1 packet Boon Tong Kee Crispy Powder
- 1 packet silken tofu
Pour the Crispy Powder into a mixing bowl.
Cut the beancurd into 2cm-thick cubes.
Place the beancurd cubes into the mixing bowl with Crispy Powder and coat all sides of the cubes evenly with the powder.
Leave the ‘coated’ tofu in the mixing bowl for about three minutes before deep frying them in heated oil at a temperature of 180⁰C to 200⁰C.
Scoop out the deep-fried beancurd once the coating of the tofu turns golden brown.
Best served with sweet sauce or Chinese-style mayonnaise.
